I remember it clearly.
January 1968, lining up for my initial Army uniform issue.
An elderly ex-veteran Q Store CPL, everyone called him “Snow”, handing out the bundles to the new recruits.
Says one recruit to Snow – “These socks are too small”
Response: “They’ll stretch, they’ll stretch.”
Next recruit to Snow – “These socks are too large”
Response: “They’ll shrink, they’ll shrink.”
