24,000 Km's service costs
« on: March 10, 2013, 07:35:15 AM »

Can anyone give me an idea of the service cost of the 24,000 Km's service on an ST1300?  I know it's the most expensive one so just need to prepare myself for the shock!

Done "by the book" at Honda World in SA in Feb 2010, it cost me $627.   $396 of that was labour and the rest was parts etc.

Here is a link to the maintenance Schedule.  https://dl.dropbox.com/u/53770433/1300%20Maint%20Sched.pdf

Most of the service you can do your self, other bits there is help around to allow you to do it. recommends replacing oil oil filter and plugs. Oil and filter OK, plugs maybe not so necessary .

When i got mine done 24000kms was quoted $500 :phone

Booked it in two days latter had it done and was charged $600

When i quetioned the difference . Oh we didnt pencil it in on the booking. :||||

On top of that the previous owner had his services carried out  at the same STealer
Quite a few invoices were indication brake pads need changing.

My invoice did not!

Since then i do it myself. :nahnah

I wont name the STealer but they are located on the CAUSEWAY Vic Park

Im now at about 55000kms :runyay

I too phoned around for a price for the 24,000K service.  Joondalup Honda couldn't even be bothered to give me a price.  However, a bloke in Ozzy Park on Main St gave me a reasonable price, but it ended up a little more (as they do) and the end result was $464.00.
I have checked the Honda Schedules, and up to now I have had dealers do my services, but it appears that they all have different things they decide to do.  Usually oil and filter.  I have read schedules where coolant and brake & clutch fluids to be changed, but not done, and they always spin a yarn as to why.
So, from now on, I do my own services (stuff em, and their rip offs).  I don't follow the Honda 4K or 8K, or the dealer 6 or 6.5K intervals.  Stuff em all (again), I have decided to do all my services at 10,000Klm, and do em properly with TLC.  I was even real naughty and let it go from 24K (actually 28K) to 40K, and guess what, ALL the fluids were finally changed.  Even flushed the clutch and brake systems (ABS) without a glitch at all.  I was most amazed at the condition of the plugs.  from replacement at 28K to 40K they looked like they were straight out of the box, never seen a plug so clean before, not a hint of carbon, and that is after running on 91 Octane (not 95).  The power seems to be the same and my economy running around Perth remains at between 19 and 20 Klms to the litre.
We have plenty of help around the club, so if you are half mechanically minded, service your own bike.  If you do half the requirements, it will be most likely more than what some Honda dealers will do.
cheers,
Cheers,
Mick.

Assuming that the dealers are doing the right thing, there will be some variability in the cost of a particular service, as some items on the schedule are time based and not mileage based, and vise-versa.   Thus if you rack up lots of kilometers, some fluid replacements may be done at a later mileage than the suggestion on the schedule which is based upon average mileage per year.    It's all about finding someone to do your serving that you trust, and has the skills, knowledge and equipment to do the job properly.    I don't have those skills, knowledge and equipment, but have great confidence in my local Honda dealer who has never done the wrong thing by me.

I have to say I agree with Pete, my Honda dealer has been excellent, has always been very open and up front, does not assume, and always consults me before any extra work is done  :thumb

First time I went to my closest Honda motorcycle dealer to arrange servicing on the then ST1100 the youngish service manager (35 y/o) happened to be out the front of the shop after serving another customer....He greeted me then inspired confidence in his next statement......"What breed of bike is that" ????

WTF.....so I do most of the servicing work now myself.

Cheers

For what it is worth and I am not an ST owner yet, but I have my VFR800fi serviced by Pro Honda at Rocklea in Brisbane.
And I live in Tweed Heads NSW. There workshop Manager Steve is THE MAN.
And guess where that ST is going to be serviced and why I will buy an St1300 instead of an FJR1300 and I love Yamahas. I had and FJ100, and three FJ1200,s
Top service, advise and you won't get ripped off. :thumbs
