fooled by the light .... or lack theroff

a lesson was well learnt yesterday!     

I was trying to see how far i could go on a full tank before the fuel light comes on.   brmmm brummm 

I did not learn that    ..... what i did learn was that I can go for 477 km before the tank is completly EMPTY!     

I also learnt that just because the fuel indicator light is nice and bright at ignition does not mean that the low fuel sensor is actually WORKING!   

I also learnt that when doing this kind of experiment it is a good idea to carry around some spare fuel incase the low sensore light DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     

so guess what ?  ....  i now need some advice on how to change the fuel sensor.

There is a fix for this. The sensor is on the fuel pump which will have to come out which I would do the day before I attempted to remove the old sensor.

It's not an urgent fix so just wait until you need more parts to make the postage cost worth or check the parts cost at your local dealer first and go with the cheapest.

I've asked a friend to change mine over early next year but in the meantime I still need to watch my fuel gauge and km. After checking the manual again there is about 5 litres left in the tank when the light comes on and about 3.5 litres when the needle first hits the red and unless I'm leaving town I add fuel before it gets to the red.
