Hi Greencan,

Good on you for keeping the ACME un-restored; personally, I think too many bikes are restored when they could just be kept and ridden in original "as found" condition, or even the condition that they need to be in to be ridden. My father-in-laws 39 Norton Dominator ran, even if it had a potato sack seat cover, but unfortunately, it was too far gone to be saved without a resto (currently underway by a cousin with the shed space).

Whilst I appreciate Concourse bikes, I love the old runners, as I think that the restotration process often takes away from some of the character of the bike and the life that it has had.

You've got a nice collection there; looks like the T150V is a runner too. :thumbsup Obviously, the Speed Triple is your plaything! :grin

As far as the MT goes, I don't want to modify it so that it can't be bought back to original, so it's more a case of removing parts to keep, and modifying replacement parts. I'd love to get my hands on a wrecked one that I didn't need to worry about modifying, but I've hit the limit as far as shed space goes. Hopefully, next year a new shed and room to house the TX and the AJ. I've no intention of totally restoring the AJS as such, but will try and get it into one registerable peice.  :thumb

...sort of, out of rego at the moment, maybe do something about that in the new year...I got the bike very cheaply in 2000/01 thought I'd like to pimp a street fighter...

...the bike came from Sydney as a repairable right-off...the bike had been rumored to one from the Mission Impossible 2...it isn't...it was a demo from Gosford and sold to an elderly chap who parked in the back of stationary car at a set of traffic lights :fp...had <5,000km on it when I go it...still only has 18,000km and it's almost 14 years old.

The T150...I got about 8 years ago for 5K from a Mate who'd had it for a short time and lost interest in it...it was ridden into my shed even with all 3 exhaust valve almost through the head...2 sets pounded out...and the exhaust cam completely stuffed...the engine damage was too big a challenge for me alone so It was rebuilt by John Kaiser (JK Motorcycles), in Geelong with parts I supplied.

Decided to do a number on this bike as I know its complete history...it's always been in Melbourne and was sold in June / July '69...in September '69 the first right up of an Australian delivered Trident was published in Two Wheels...the Rego of that featured bike was DX-409...the bike I am restoring is DX-429...both bikes were supplied from Frank Musset Motorcycles in Sydney Rd, Brunswick.

So I am rather hoping this one (http://www.classicstyle.com.au/bikedetails.php?ID=1234&ManID=15), realizes it's advertised asking price :eek :grin

Apart from my 1998 ST 1100 ex police bike I have a 2007 Triumph Speedmaster (Speedmistress) I bought this 3 years ago to upgrade from my 83 K100 BMW which had developed an engine knock (cush drive rubbers)
The 1972 Honda CB750 I've owned for about 18 years

I also have a 1928 BSA which is a retirement project I have secured for later , also have a fairly original 70's Yamaha 175 AG bike that I use around property .

I've only got the ST1300 at the moment, but hope one day to have a Suzuki 650cc V-Strom as well.    This would allow me to do some dirt road and desert tracks, as well as "black top" touring.

Hey Silky,

Does the BSA outfit run? If it does, it would be great to see it on the road in it's original condition. Don't get me wrong; I'd love to see it resotred, but there's something about an original running oldie...

atoyot  the Beesa is incomplete and apart from no primary chain or clutch the magneto is not conected .
This bike as it stands is really just a static display piece but I have had a bit of a tinker already.
What I intend to do is remove the side car and get it up on a table top stand which I have in my other shed .
This engine as far as I can determine is actually out of an aproximately 1936 model and is a 250cc , alot can happen to a machine in 80 years
I have aquired a 500 engine and will work on installing that .
I am not going to build a concourse restoration and agree that a machine with patina would still be legend stuff .
If I can ever get this beast chuff chuff chuffing up and down my back road that will be a great day .

I actually met a nice old retired guy today with a lathe and milling machines , funny the journey life takes us and the people we will meet in our pursuit of motorcycle tom foollery .
I have been told of a guy in Perth from near my home town who rebuilds magnetos so it will all come together and give me places to go and people to meet on my ST 1100 .
I have gained a bit of knowledge about this era of Beesa since buying this one . I have had 5 BSA singles prior to this one .

I still have the rego papers from my first BSA 250 a 1957 model

I don't know if it's worthwhile reviving this old thread, and I'd forgotten that I'd started it, but I've got a confession to make..... |-i

I've had G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) in relation to old cameras for a while now, nothing to do with bikes as such, but I thought I'd cured myself as my collection is just about complete, within the scope of what I collect. Well just when I thought I'd beat the addiction, I had a fairly bad relapse last night and I bought 3 x Yamaha XS650's, in varying states of use. I think my wife wishes I'd stuck with cameras. Wot thuh

OK, they're not Hondas, but I keep missing opportunities to buy a Honda twin of choice, a '67 CB450 "Black Bomber"

Of the 3 XS's,  a '75 XS650C, in French Blue is in beautiful original running condition. My brother on the Sunshine Coast checked it out for me and strongly recommended it. The 2nd one is an '80 Special, of which I think are one of the ugliest Japanese cruisers of the day, except for the fact that it is powered by such a beautiful engine. Not sure what to do with this one, as it needs new carb CV's, and some cosmetic work to bring it up to Blue Slip standard. They are probably the most common XS model, but could be a good café racer project, with a rephased 750cc motor hot-rodded up. The 3rd is pretty much a frame and swingarm with enough bits to build a complete bike. All I know is that it is a standard model (pre Special) and it doesn't have a fuel tank. In reality, I was really only after all the spares, as many are interchangeable between the different models, and I know I'll need a few bits for my TX650A when I get around to it.

Actually, I just thought of another excuse for my obsessive impulsive G.A.S. relapse, and it's because I've gotten used to having a ready supply of spares after I bought my wrecked ST off the insurance company. The fact that the XS spares came with 2 free bikes is just a bonus.  :grin Looks like I'll have to join a club now, as I can't afford full rego's on all my bikes now.

Pictures to follow after I work out how to collect it all from the Sunshine Coast!

I've has a couple of CB450's - Oh I loved those bikes! A mate of mine had a Yammy XS650 with straight out pipes - loud!. He lost his licence, so I became his chauffeur.

I have recently looked at an XS1100 - they were delicious. Back in the eighties, I owned one and rode a few others and also a few of the XS750 triples.

Honda and Yamaha - the top two as far as I am concerned. I've owned a couple of Suzukis, ridden many others. Kawasaki has never grabbed me though - except for the 750 triple two stroker - and that was deadly!

I'm jealous - my SWMBO tells me only one bike. I'll have to stick to cameras myself.

Hey Bluey, I've always had something for the XS1100 in Red and Silver, and also in particular, the black RH model. They're starting to get too expensive, but every now and then, a cheap one pops up. Not that I've really got the $ to spend on these things; I've convinced my wife that they are an investment (if not butchered and kept original) and that I'll NEVER be bored when I retire (in about 20 years time, when they'll all be worth a fortune). My only problem is that if you just buy bikes that you love, it's gotta be very hard to sell them when the need arises. I might think about it when I'm too broke to buy food!

I've had a few models of each of the big four Jap makers, and each one has it's strengths and weaknesses. We all know Honda is best for quality and reliability, Yamaha not too far behind, Suzuki with their strong engines, and Kawasaki with the add model that nails the market. My first few bikes were Honda's, and they all got an absolute caning from me, but never let me down. One Honda Four of mine (SOHC 750F2) had failures of every chain on the bike, including the primary, and 3 cam chains. All due to abuse and way too much horsepower!

I too love the Kawasaki triples, even the evil first 500. Still can't get the image of one wheelying past me up the road at ton up speeds when I was an impressionable teenager. I always wanted one, a purple 750H2 for me, but they're just too expensive for me now. Even the old Suzuki Titans are lots of $$ now. Arrrh, I can just smell that Castrol R now. Actually, I've still got some in the shed, so might go up and burn some..... :runyay

I'd really like to have a Blackbird in my stable but apart from laying out the $s to buy the bike you're also faced with rego and Insurance year in year out and the cost of that would be hard to justify for the amount of use the bike would get, so for now, I'll just keep dreaming.

I can hardly wait but leaving in the morning to pick up this

and this (potentially a good café racer propect, otherwise, Yuuuuuuck! except for that beautiful vertical twin), and about 12 boxes of bits forming another complete bike from the Sunshine Coast.....

I must be feeling a bit nostalgic, as I even dredged up the only photo I can think of that I have of my old TX650A (in about 1981) which I still have in many pieces under the house, and soon to be started on...Shame about the idiot wrecking a perfectly good photo of a nice bike!

I hate to say it, but the 3 wheeler is a ball of fun :)

I went on a charity ride last weekend, and a 3 wheeler Gilera was there as well, but it was ridden by an ah, ahem, older lady, who was very cautious, as they should be, but I still thought it looked pretty cool and very practical for people who need a bit more stability, and also for those who forget to put their sidestand down when pulling up.... :popcorn

It still falls over like a normal bike unless you "lock" the bike upright.. rides like a normal bike, but has massive traction around corners, and feels very light even though its 250kg...

Oh, and its not a bad touring scooter either.. It will be coming down to the OzStoc rally with the missus riding.. 7000km round trip!
