Despite many discouraging words, my daughter Lia has bitten the bullet and bought a new Suzuki TU250X. A great little machine, which I will be riding home from the dealer in the morning. Then lots of learning to do.

Here is the proud new owner astride her new machine:

Maybe one day she will graduate to an ST - after a suitable amount of experience of course.

What a great bike to learn on. Light, reliable, easy to ride, very forgiving and a breeze in traffic. Good luck to her in her riding.

My kids on motorcycles are my worst fears, it's just too bloody dangerous for them. So, I've banned them from riding. They are 26, 29 & 36 years old, I'm not sure how effective the ban will be.

I have offered my daughter's boy friend the Mighty CB1300 for a ride anytime though.

I'm sure that if I attempted to place a ban, it would likely be just plain ignored.

Best to ensure they have they safest journey by equipping them with good advice and proper gear. And best wishes of course, if that will do any good.

I can understand the fear. Like the fear my mother must have had about me riding.

We used the TU suzuki as ridersafe learner bikes years ago. Good solid and reliable. I'm sure she won't have any trouble with it.

The missus' young fella got his bike licence before his car licence. I made sure he did a Stay Upright course as soon as he could and when he was learning he'd come on our Ulysses rides and get some very good advice on cornering and roadcraft from a number of our more skilled members. I was really proud that he listened to the advice he was given and he is now quite a good rider.

I've put a few Km on the new bike and it is a little ripper! ---- but is little compared to the ST.

Lia has been having fun, gaining confidence and is relishing the prospect of some good trips in the future. She has already started hatching plans to ride to the town of 1770 from Briz-Vegas some time in the not too distant future.

Wow! The hatchling is already planning FarRides!

At least the 250cc will keep up with the speed limit. One FarRider recently did Newcastle-Melbourne-Newcastle on a 150cc and found some 110 kph areas a challenge in a headwind. A 125cc jobbie on the same run cooked the donk. That was after torturing it through an SS1600.

Not sure how much I agree with this; surely what you are saying is that you are happy to control you kids, despite their ages, simply because of the slight risks involved in upsetting you, however you are happy to give a ride to some-one not in your family on a 1300cc motorbike. Surely, if your kids want to ride, at their age there is nothing that you can do about, and neither should you be able to do anything about it. It is their choice. I would have thought that the better way to approach your fears in this would be to make sure that they are properly taught how to ride, and practice effectively by going out with them on rides.

Please understand that I am not complaining about this, just getting confused with the reasoning behind the situation, after all if riding is "too bloody dangerous" why do you do it?

Just so long as he takes the CB for a very long solo ride. Wouldn't want him to hurt himself.

Losing the bike is sometimes the cheapest option...
