Do you blokes remember using this?
« on: January 17, 2014, 11:30:45 PM »
Just a tad before my time - but I would have goobed it on in gallons if it was still around...

Got any stories/memories of 'brilling up'?

The Bodgies and The Widgies?  The Mods and the Greasers?

Cheers, Diesel

What do you mean remember it? I still use it and still drive a 1957 FE sedan (just a little bit tweeked).

Only kidding, I don't use it any more, although I have on occasions borrowed my sons Hair Gel when the hair got a bit long and unruly. My dad used it up until the day he died at 92 and I'm sure a few members of rod club I belong to still use it. Some of them seem to be stuck in a time warp.

I certainly remember the add, my mum used to pour on dads californian poppy hair oil.
It had its own distinct aroma. I also never recall having nits at school, I think hair oil was just too much for the little beggars.

The Bodgies and The Widgies
Now that brings back memories.
I remember a Bodgie asking a Widgie if she's ever been picked up by the fuzz.
And she replied, "No, but I bet it hurts."

Oh dear!  Did we really think those cheesy ads were enticing??

It wasn't Brycleem that set your hair like a helmet.  Was that Californian Poppy that did that?  I know there was one that did.

Another classic from the time was Bex (and Vincents APCs).
They rotted out many a hassled mother's kidneys.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

It only took one mention of a funny add, and I'm off on another tangent!  :grin :grin

The Leggos add....

"When your man's come home from a rough day at work, open up your 'Leggos' and give his meat a treat!"

The Salvital add....

"Little housewife, has such a hard life,
Worn out before her man gets hooooo-o-ome
So they gave her, a glass of Salvital,
Now he's afraid to come home alone" as he's dragged through the front door when getting home.

and for the last one from much more recent times.....
