Video Editing/Post Production Software...
« on: December 13, 2012, 10:01:32 AM »
With all these cams out there, and the genii behind them - I was wondering what video editing software you favour?

Tell us why it is so good... ease of use, capabilities, good titles/effects etc.

And does it have slo-mo and sped up vision capability?

Cheers, Diesel

I've only used Adobe Premiere, and obviously its very good, but you pay the premium for it. Its certainly not a lightweight or casual production method, however.

Here is a short list of freebie editors, but giving Microsoft Movie Maker the top spot hints at some sort of conspiracy.

My friend uses Lightworks - its free and has also been used to make full length feature films http://www.lwks.com/

Feature film listing is here: http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=15&Itemid=176

I use AVS Video Converter, it will convert, edit, speed up, slow down, change aspect ratio, change resolution, join, split, add effects, add transitions etc etc. It's not terrifically expensive, about $60 I think, but it comes with a significantly large bunch of optional programs to do all sorts of things to video and audio files as well. Dammed good value and quite easy to use, tech support is good and fast if you have questions, and their tutorial and help files are fantastic. Started life as a Russian program (although in English), but is now hosted from London.

It can be got from here;

I originally started with Microsoft Movie Maker - cos it was free. Then found it was a little limiting, and was often causing hell with my desktop PC's video card. I then played with Lightworks (free), followed the tutorials, played some more, then went out and splurged $60 on the Pro version - love it!

It isn't that hard to use out-of-the-box for some basic stuff, and does seem to be a little complicated for the extra stuff. However, if you're going to create a lot of video, this is certainly the go (you don't really need the Pro version). You have almost limitless control of what you want to do.

Spend an hour looking at the video tutorials here.

I use Final Cut Pro and also Adobe Premier for MAC

I know alot of people use Sony Vegas.

But for free I'd say Move maker (PC) or iMovie (MAC)
