Thanks Sabie, nice find. Now I know it's not actually a problem.  :thumbsup

Good read, Ive often had conversations with other riders that blame all sorts of things for cupping.
I always blamed it on road camber.

this is my rear tyre after Ballarat, could it be my 1st time pillion was sitting slightly to the right looking over my shoulder, I felt my bike wasn't  vertical but I put it down to towing and Pillion also trye pressure was down

the other side of tyre

very unusual wear, mayB i should turn left more... :crackup

I'm far from an expert, but that looks like it was under-inflated for your pillion load.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I had the same looking tyre on my 02 ST1300 a few years back after riding on a tyre with a slow leaking on my way to Lightning Ridge
It got me back to Toowoomba after pumping it up again

I think you might have to do a trip to the bike shop for a new tyre  :fp

I dont think I'll be riding anywhere b4 I get a new one.  :law I looked at my receipt and I've done over 11k k's on this tyre so not bad considering trailer weight also for about 3k of that.. will get r angle nipples too...

To minimise cupping you still need to have the correct tyre pressure, but it makes sense to me. My font tyre is starting to show signs of cupping on this trip, tyre pressure has been closely monitored and yet cupping is still forming.

I do believe under inflated tyres would contribute to the severity of the cupping and the speed and magnitude of the cupping.

Correct tyre pressure is always the right way to go.

Under inflation and suspension that is too soft (soft springs/lack of damping) can make the tyre flex and work harder, leading to strange wear patterns.  Having a tyre not rated for the weight of the bike can be another problem.
