Interesting story. I wandered through the other topics at the bottom of the page and came across the following page about riders not being allowed to stretch their legs whilst riding, which also indicates the law is flawed:
http://motorbikewriter.com/motorcycle-footpeg-law-flawed/<
Rules that prevent riders stretching their legs or standing up on motorcycle footpegs have been confirmed as flawed by Queensland Transport and Main Roads officials, according to racing legend Kevin Bartlett.>
According to Rule 271
https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/CURRENT/T/TrantOpRURR09.pdf, we cannot effectively take our feet off the pegs even when we're coming to a stop:
271 Riding on motorbikes(1) The rider of a motorbike that is moving (other than a rider who is walking beside and pushing a motorbike), or the rider of a motorbike that is stationary but not parked, must—
(a) sit astride the rider’s seat facing forwards; and
(b) ride with at least 1 hand on the handlebars; and
(c)
if the motorbike is moving—keep both feet on the footrests designed for use by the rider of the motorbike.
Maximum penalty—20 penalty units.
So unless we install automatic outriggers, we all break the law when we come up to a red light, stop sign, or just pull up!
