mounting a am/fm radio on the dash of my ST1300

I am thinking of getting a stereo radio for the ST1300 currently have a system that I keep in my pocket that connects to a ipod which we can listen to via helmet speakers. It's not great so I was considering getting a proper system mounted on the dash that I can listen to via speakers in the dash for low speed or bluetooth it to the helmet speakers or use a cable connection.

anyone help out please. I want this sorted by April next year as I am doing a quick circuit Townsville Adelaide then home via Alice Springs, Mt Isa. Thanks

Do you want bike powered or own battery ?? Are you happy to have an aerial on the bike ??

Howdy, Looking at AM/FM with I pod wired into the bike and i will hang the antenna of the bake where the tow-bar is.

This is my setup for audio entertainment

for music:
MP3 player (Philips Songbird)
hardwired from MP3 under tank to volume controller
continue to 3 pin DIN socket left side cowling,
up my jacket and ito custom in-ear drivers

I can control the volume with gloves on and skip fwd/rev/pause using MP3 controls.


I also use a Scala rider bluetooth for phone calls and pilion/bike to bike intercom

I attached a DIN socket for my audio connection, as I was not happy with the previous location by the seat.
purchased from JayCar Melbourne. 
Now easy access near the pre-load adjuster   
It will release if tugged, if I accidently forget to disconnect, or the unfortunate “off”. 
I may paint it black, but it is more subtle looking than in the photo anyway

This is the Marine AM/FM and short wave GME GR200 radio....and has MP3 capabilities at the rear, the old model GR100 doesn't have the MP3.


You mentioned that you may mount your antenna down on the towbar ?? with the antenna so low and shrouded by you and the bike and I presume trailer at times your radio signal may suffer considerable, particularly on FM, the other issue that may present is the potential for radio frequency noise (hash, squeaks, farts, burbs and wines) from being so close to your rear wheel bearing particularly on AM .......don't laugh seen it before, Toyotas commercial vehicles particularly 

Perhaps a bracket out from a mirror bolt or a bar across under the top box ??

Nice bit of kit, I can see long wave and marine VHF being handy  , shortwave?? OK ABC regional broadcasts, good for the GAFA
