Different name but the same helmet
« on: August 25, 2014, 01:56:30 PM »
Birthday a couple of weeks ago, my helmet has got a bit skunky over the last 4 years, so I went looking for a new helmet.  I've been wearing an LS2 FF386, and liked it's fit, the fact that its a flip front and has an internal sun visor which drops down.  But I couldn't find one anywhere.

Had a look at a Shark, but it seemed rounder and was uncomfortable on the forehead and back of the head.  Then tried on a Rjays TSS Tour Trek, it fitted beautifully, seemed more oval, was a flip front and had an internal sun visor, so I got one ordered in and my wife gave it to me for my birthday.

It felt so much like my old helmet that I got the old one out and checked it against the new Rjays one.  I think it's the same helmet!  The plastic strap clip on the LS2 has been replaced with a D-ring, its in a white pearl finish, the sun visor lever has been repositioned, and the air vents have been changed.  But all the mouldings seem to be identical, even little things like the front panel clip and fastenings, seem identical.  I think it's identical even down to the little fault where the sun visor sits a little low when it's raised.  I'm so thankful that I've found my old helmet branded in another name, because it fits so well.

$199 ???? in most places now to, you get alot of helmet for your money.....Pockey had one and liked it but moved on to a Shoei more due to the shell size being a little large and getting a little buffering from wind the TSS.

Was a expensive mistake I made having Pockey move to the Shoei Multitec from the TSS  :fp when I said "Hey that helmet is as wide as your a$$" so a costly lesson learnt  :whistle

Diesel is on his second TSS from memory  :like

In fact this one seems to fit even better than my last one.  Maybe the padding had compressed a little but the old one had a much higher level of wind noise.  The new one is much quieter.  I'd buy another one, yeah it's value for money.

I think helmets are a compromise for all different shaped heads....I found a shark I liked with a seatbelt type neck strap clip which I thought was great..then to a few other brands with the same style chin strap clip, lastly a Zeus with the same styme chin clip...once adjusted the clip was in the right place every time you wore the helmet...

THEN they who must be obeyed decided that the safety belt style clip was ruled out and back to D buckles again.  Have presently a Zeus flip front with a jet pilot flip down sun shield.

I JUST WISH someone would make a QUIET HELMET, eliminating most of the wind noise.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a decent helmet these days. It has been years since I tried cheaper helmets, and they used to feel nowhere near as good as more expensive ones.  I probably should have another look around in the next year or so. The main benefit of the Evoline is being crash rated when in the open position, but depends whether you use that feature.

A fit matters more. In some brands I just can't get the right shape. In another forum a few mentioned helmet sellers (in the UK) that swapped around optional padding until the fit was right.

I was under the impression that ADR had only approved D buckle chin straps for use in Australia. The reason I say that is a couple of manufacturers had had to change there chin straps back to D buckles in order to sell them in Australia.
Is anyone able to confirm that?

A.

Up to about 5 years ago you could purchase helmets with that seat belt style neck strap buckle, including big brand names like shark, but alas twin D buckles are all the go now. ( I have 4 different brand helmets on my shelves with the seat belt style buckles...all old)
