Cruisy day today
« on: February 10, 2015, 06:35:13 AM »
Heading out the door shortly. Have been 'invited' to cruise about 100 Km to a small Victorian rural area called Sandford, population around 270, for a free coffee and lunch at around 5 different addresses in the area, while I learn a little of their individual computer woes.....

Sure beats the hell out of sitting here at my own keyboard all day...Light cloud overhead, coolish 15 at present, might sneak up to 23 today.

Good enough!.... wheres my helmet....

Geez Kev, it didn't get DOWN to 23 degrees up here in the tropics last night!  When the alarm went off at 6.30 am it was already 29 degrees.

Have a good ride

Nice area that. My father's family was around Coleraine, but I don't know the area that well as I moved up here early on.

What a life!!

Well, That was a fun day! Got some miles in, only light traffic, fine weather, enjoyable company, new friends made, and 7 computers debugged and operational.
Was only Malware, easily removed. .... and a roast lunch...

Life doesn't get much better than this, Biggles!

Nice area to cruise saaz, fairly good roads and nice scenery. Some twisty bits, and up and down green hills with some leg-stretching straight runs thrown in.

Have to come down this way sometime Steve, enjoy some great riding weather.

A great run, Chris... just an hour each way, barely more than a commute..... but with only ONE traffic light to contend with, twice, on the whole trip.

Oh yeah.... and a breatho test thrown in.

Well done..

Just a tip in case you come across this problem Kev,  Video crashing, or heaven fobid FBook games not working.... Adobe flash player doesnt seem to update properly on the auto update. Download the latest version (From Adobe of course)  and manually update..

Stopped my sister bugging me about her games, now she thinks I'm clever again..

 o:)

not to mention removing one of those nasty browser search hijacks from her husbands PC

Thanks, Brock... discovered the auto flash update problem with a system last saturday, and downloaded update manually to fix it.

One of the systems today had  webssearch and isearch.iomega hijackers ... bit of a pig to remove. Ended up resetting his browser and dumping all passwords and favourites addys, after writing down details of them for him to re-enter as he goes.

Some of those install as a program, so need add remove progs  (CCleaner make some easier)

Depending on the browser, they may be in the add ons. Of course they use different names just to be difficult

Glad you enjoyed your day out Kev.

WIN 8 and WIN 8.1 using IE 11 has Flash player built in so it comes down as a Microsoft update so I don't have to worry about. I set Heather's WIN 7 (IE 11) to update flash player on auto the last time it came down so I'll see how that goes.

Heather wants me to do a factory restore so I've been backing up files over to the laptop for the last few days......she might have picked up something so I'll have to take a look see what I can find.

Alan, download and run the FREE version of MalwareBytes... anything it finds is safe to delete.

No way.......tried that one on a previous computer (incidentally which is my old WIN 7 PC) .....all was well and good until it asked to update outdated drivers.......a couple of packaged software items failed to work after........so I had to do a system restore to put everything back to before I installed the Malwarebytes......got rid of that

If you contiue to have problems, you should be able to do a system restore to a previous date. Pick one before the problem started.

You wont lose any data, but some programs and updates may go.

I'm not sure if there is a problem yet......sometimes IE (default browser) won't load certain pages fast enough or not all while Chrome will.
It seems ok today so it may have been the modem which was continually dropping out. The ISP sent us another modem (under warranty) with different firmware so far no complaints from Heather...yet....lol

If not sure if browser or connectivity issue at any time, open a command prompt (Windows key + R , type cmd then press Enter) and type ping 8.8.8.8
Faster to do than generally a modem rebooting and if you get no replies then internet is down but if you get 4 replies then probably browser problem. Had this happening for a hour or so last night while migrating a virtual server from vsphere to hyper-v remotely. Was not fun.

The new modem only dropped out a couple times over the first week that we noticed. ISP rang us and advised that they'd notify Telstra. Appeared to be an open circuit on our line somewhere?????. Rusty connection found where phone line connects to the house; repaired and all seems ok since then.

Still haven't restored Heather's PC yet
