""Open speed limit zones will remain and be extended by a further 60 kilometres," a statement from the office of Chief Minister Adam Giles said.

The statement said Territorians had acted "responsibly" since the trial began, with a lower number of accidents in the trial sections and 130kph zones compared to the five-year average."

This would appear to confirm the opinion over on the other speed thread.     :beer
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Very few of our fatalities are on major highways.  Many more in suburban areas, or 18 people crammed into a troopy on dirt tracks...

NT doctors are responding saying the trial time was too short.  It needed to be ten years.       :o

It was at least forty years 1967 to 2007! And it was only reduced because Canberra forced them to....
I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

That is correct .... it was not Canberra ( aka the federal government) it was the territory government that did it.

Under pressure from the federal government, and threat to withdraw federal road funding if they didn't....
