Another blast from the past
Queens visit 1954. I was around 7 years old. We had to attend on Saturday, which was the pits, because it chopped into my fishing time. Event was held on the Memorial Oval in Whyalla, next door to our school. We were standing so far away from where the Queen drove in, that she was just a figure in a blue dress, waving from an open car.
One of the highlights of the day was an Aboriginal throwing a boomerang, but contrary to popular myth, he failed to catch it on its return.
My mother was the Chef at the BHP Staff House, which was where the Queen and the Duke spent the night, and where I was personally introduced to the celebrities on Saturday night. Dont remember much about it, though. Probably still annoyed that I missed out on going fishing that day.
