Final Drive Horror
« on: December 07, 2015, 03:27:22 PM »
I know it has been covered before but I just wanted to share my story in the hope that people can avoid this problem.
I have just purchased my ST1100 a few  weeks ago. It needed a new rear tire so I purchased same and removed the rear wheel only to find to my horror this and this .Lets just say that I was not a happy little camper that day.
After a lot of swearing and searching on the net I decided to go for new parts. So $700+ later the parts have been ordered unfortunately the final drive gear set is on back order and I won't see them for 2 weeks at best.
So lets hope people take heed and maintain their final drives.

Life is too short to let things get you down.

Well I finally got all the bits and got it all back together.

New gear set, seals, bearings and "O"rings. New drive flange, damper rubbers and alloy inserts. All in all it wasn't to bad to do.
Don't ask about the cost because I didn't add it all up and I don't want to know.

Now I just need to get out on the road and get some km up on it.

Next job will be the timing belt but first I need to have some fun time.
