Spanner down but not out

Had a little incident the other day

No photos because I think I was in too much shock to take them.

No injuries to myself other than two bruised knees but the bike got a little touch up.

Came round a corner to see a 4wd towing a bloody big caravan on MY SIDE OF THE ROAD!

Dick did not even try to swerve out of. My lane as I had to swerve violently to miss him.  I ended up having to straighten up and head for side of road where there was loose cut grass, gravel and other slippery things ABS does not work well with.

I was going a reasonable clip .... Nothing stupid by any measure but this action brought me to the end of terra firma as the earth disappeared and a 12 foot embankment allowed gravity to take charge. 

Down I went thankfully into huge soft bed of massive grasses that cushioned my fall. The bike must have been only doing 20kph by the time she went over but she lost both mirrors and cowles and ended upside down. 

I was helped out of the ditch by this amazing bloke and two other drivers. 

Be careful.

Hopefully you will be ok soon and turn you attentions to getting the bike back in one piece.   Some drivers do seriously need to take a good look at their driving habits.  I had a similar experience a few months back on gorge road.  He even smiled and waved at me as I went bush.

Really, really, glad you're OK Spanner. I had a lump in my throat and a chill up my spine when I read "4WD".

Sorry to hear the bike got hurt. Hope it isn't too prohibitive to fix.

glad you're ok...scary how quickly things can change and on a bike you always come off second best. Good luck getting the bike up and running...does insurance help in this situation?

Amazing you came off so light.  Hope you heal completely soon.
Surely insurance will kick in on the bike.  Two mirrors and two cowls is a write-off for some insurers.
Upside-down doesn't augur well for the handlebar alignment.

In answer to the questions

No they did not stop......  They kept going 

If I had been in a car I would have been doing pretty much the same speed and I would most likely be much more injured than I was   and the car(s) would have been very badly damaged 

I am fine and healthy.... No injuries to report 

Apart from the mirrors and the slight steering issues with very small bend in bar no real probs   

Haven't checked out insurance claim ability yet

ok .... I have finally been able to access wifi again...... and a regular computer so I can actually read the words.

I am now looking out for two mirror/indicator housings and 1 left hand mirror for my blue ST1100 - 1999 model

any iras where I should look for these??

Lots of luck with finding mirror housings, I am missing the left one after an argument with an emu on the way to the Balranald overnighter meet.
Have not yet been able to source a replacement for my 98 1100

You might have to buy a new one - after checking local price (about $170) it's still cheaper to buy from the UK - Part number 88121MT3003ZK  (98 red) About $100 plus postage
