Thinking about a VIC/SA trip someday
« on: March 24, 2016, 11:01:32 AM »
I'm thinking of hopping back across the ditch and doing a ride, maybe late summer next year.  The wife loves pillioning, but her hip and knee restrict the distance she can stay on the bike.

So, I'm thinking of hiring a bike in Melbourne, do Lorne, Great Ocean Road, Mt Gambier (the highlight of the trip  ;-* ), on to Adelaide, then back to Melbourne via an inland route, maybe Mildura, Bendigo, Ballarat.  Later on, when the plan is more concrete I'll be asking for input on roads to take, places to see and to stay at.

But because the wife can't do any great distance on the bike (< 50 km/day) I'd maybe rent a car as well and have her drive it, meeting up each day for lunch and each night at a motel.  We could go for a little tootle on the bike each day, say have breakfast somewhere out of town, ride to a restaurant for dinner or just do a small local circuit.  NO!!!  I wouldn't leave her behind!!

Maybe I could look for another couple who'd like to do a trip like that, where the wife couldn't/wouldn't pillion but would like to travel along by car.  Maybe they'd like to come across to NZ some day and tour some of the great roads over here on the same basis.

Anyway, just thinking about how I could arrange things so I could ride one of motorbiking's great roads, yet have my wife's company.  Does something like that sound feasible?

At my age you realise something very important, then ten minutes later you've forgotten it.
