150,000km service - change of timing belt

Hi all,

Haven't posted in months but looking at getting a major service and doing the timing belt - bike has now done 150,000km's - put 60,000km's on the old faithful in 7 years.

Apart from the standard, plugs , oil, oil filter and shims what is good to replace while getting the timing belt done.

I read maybe the fuel filter is a good one. Any other suggestions ?

Several items come to mind

Coolant hoses that go in under the carbs - After 150,000 I did all the hoses and a faulty thermostat. The coolant reserve tank went brittle and I replaced that as well.

Gerd if you do the hoses be carefull when taking the hoses OFF the elbows..  I did my hoses back in 2013 and broke 1 elbow replacing hoses.

Those elbows were prone to cracking on earlier years - mine seemed ok but replaced them anyway.

The hoses on mine we near bursting point so I was glad to check them out during the timing belt change over.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I replaced the thermostat and coolant reservoir bottle at 127,000 kms as the bike was dropping a lot of coolant and showing high temperatures when it was quite cool. Fixed the problem.

I might as well replace the hoses and elbows while doing the timing belt.

Been good Sicman. Doing a bicycle ride from Sydney to Brisbane 9th - 17th May with a combined Qld and NSW Firies group. Will be about 100 riders going Hornsby, Cessnock, Scone, Armidale, Tenterfield, Casino, Brisbane. Will be a hoot.

2 wheels is the only way to travel.

I'm past 150000Ks, havent done anything yet. Still have the same plugs that were in the bike when I got it at 35000Ks. Last time I looked, the plugs were still good, my spread sheet of fuel usage doesnt show any performance drop.

Fuel hoses at rear of carbs. Cant remember the post but someone will find it

the return fuel line to the vacuum shut off, one end is about 8mm, the other about 10mm, hose is 8mm both ends and splits from the inside, looks good externally, but can leak onto the alternator.

Just sourcing parts for the timing belt today.

Team Moto Honda Springwood wanted $250.00 for an OEM Honda Timing Belt.
Found one on eBay =   GATES TIMING BELT FOR HONDA ST1100 1991-02 1100CC MOTORBIKE T325
at http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/automotiveonline2012 for $67. My work colleague tells me Gates are top quality and actually manufacture for Ducati and Honda.
Just hope it fits - will let you know.

Replaced the spark plugs 16,000 km's ago so based on the overwhelming feedback won't replace them just yet.

On another note of longevity, my Motobatt Battery is 4 yrs 10 mths old and still starting strongly.

Getting the Repco ROF 135 Oil filter, Castrol Active 4T oil and Green coolant.
