MJM has modified three seats for me in recent years.
I have been able to visit him to explain exactly what I wanted in a seat.
I have extra long legs so my priority has always been to raise the seat height.
He modified a ST1300 seat for me and I thought the modification was brilliant. Unfortunately, I wrote that bike off on the Pacific Highway.
MJM then modified the seat of my replacement bike, Yamaha FJR 1300. No need for an Air Hawk on my IBA rides.
The first seat I had modified was for an ST1100 by John Moorehouse in Brisbane.
I prefer the work done by MJM.

Mick does a nice job , he did my2009 Vstrom a few years ago and I was happy with the ride , although I still used a sheepskin or biker beads as well but that just me ,I think you would be very happy with one of his seats and he lent me a seat while he had mine......he even gave me a test ride on his Tiger 800.. Very tasty.

If I was asked why not to buy I would say:
He uses your seat base so you don't have a spare seat
Waiting time is usually a couple of months
$485 is on the high side for a reupholstered seat

I would also be looking at the Sargent for $630 ,I think they are a better seat and easier to resell if needed .

I've had 2 seats done by Mick at MJM but I've found John Moorehouse in Capalaba QLD much better.

Mick is a very nice bloke and his work is very good but after comparing John's work to Mick's I prefer John's seats and he's marginally cheaper.

The main difference I've found is in the type of foams used and how the seats are shaped.  Mick uses the original OEM foam as a base and then adds foams with different densities.  Mick's seat were better than OEM but just didn't ever feel as good as they looked.  John totally rebuilds your seat from the seat pan up and uses layers of one type of foam.  His seats feel firmer than Mick's seats but it has proven to be much more comfortable for long days in the saddle for my backside anyway.

If you make a personal appointment to see John I also found him to be much more pedantic regarding getting the seat shape right as well.

That's just my experience as I guess everyones butt is unique.

I had my seat done mid last year by Mick. He had suggested that I come down for the day, as long I was there before 9:00 he could get it finished at the end of the day. As it turned out I had to take the car down so I just dropped it in and picked it up the next day on my way back from Canberra.
I've found the seat to be quite firm but I'm now happy with the result and rode across to Perth for the AGM without too much pain. It is certainly better than the stock seat.
