Brookester,
It’s interesting that some respondents (in the NT News article) were reported as saying that “they felt pressure to drive above their comfort zone” because of people driving too close behind or road trains pushing up on them.
When drivers get too close to the rear of my vehicle (car or bike) I slow down. The closer they get the slower I travel. They usually get the message and back off.
It’s my understanding that trucks are still limited to 100 kph in the NT. Is that not the case?
I’ve completed a couple of IBA centreline 24s (2,723 kms in 24 hrs) when the top limit was 130 kph without being too pushed for time. The challenge with this ride is staying awake and alert for 24 hrs.
I just hope the maximum speed is not reduced to 110 kph.

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

More people die in hospitals than on our roads, maybe we should put warning signs up outside hospitals . . . .

I thought that when I read it.  And they always get a doctor to say how dangerous speed is.
From my experience, the same doctors call our machines "murder-cycles".
A doctor friend recently lamented the temporary halving of the speed limit in South Africa years ago because it ruined their kidney transplant supplies.   Wot thuh

It's those same doctors that call motorcyclists temporary australians as well. :dred11 :dred11 :dred11

"six per cent indicated “they felt pressure to drive above their comfort zone” because of people driving too close behind or road trains pushing up on them".
Surely they will be pressured more when other drivers are scared to exceed the 130kph limit?

Reducing speed limits has its place & I am particularly in favour of lowered limits through residential streets but on open highways I beleive too low a limit increases the risk of accidents - this reminds me to ask is anyone attending the "Save the Oxley" protest ride tomorrow? :blu13

 o:)
Driving or riding at a higher speed has a tendency to make the operator of the vehicle more alert
for me that is ...was 125 kph...
any thing slower had a tendency to become boring..
Most open road accidents on straight roads is people getting bored and falling asleep.
hence it is not the speed that kills.
morons ..inattention..texting...checking speedo...boredom...and of course sleeping at the wheel...
