SpotWalla News
« on: January 01, 2017, 10:08:06 AM »
Just thought I would share news from Jason at SpotWalla and add a reminder that this site runs totally on our donations, Not a Fee for Service, so as I and many others do at this time of year we will make a donation equal to one (1) full tank of fuel to help Jason in keeping SpotWalla running for all our benefit....

I hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday season and that 2017 brings you all peace, prosperity and good health.
I've made some resolutions for the new year.
First and foremost, I need to post more information about what's going on in SpotWalla. New, interesting public trips that people are on or location pages that are starting. I've done a poor job of that up until now and I'm resigned to do better.
SpotWalla will get a face lift soon along with some new security-related functionality.
For those of you who've been around SpotWalla a while, you know user interface design is not my forte. I mean, if I had to make a living designing user interfaces, I'd have a difficult time paying the bills.
Two or three years ago I started using Bootstrap as a base template for SpotWalla. It has proven to be a wise move. SpotWalla has become much more mobile friendly and has a cleaner look-n-feel. I've kicked this up a notch by adopting a new Bootstrap theme which makes SpotWalla even more mobile friendly and, to the extent of my capabilities, provides an even cleaner look-n-feel.
Security-wise we're introducing Dynamic Secure Zones. A typical secure zone is a static circular region of the map centered on some given coordinates with a defined radius. Locations that fall within the secure zone are not displayed. These static secure zones are perfect for securing one's home, place of work, Grandma's house, etc.
But what if you always want to secure your current location? Well, a dynamic secure zone is an effective way of doing so. A dynamic secure zone operates just like a static secure zone with one important exception - the center of the secure zone is always your last known location. That's what makes it "dynamic." So as you move, so does the secure zone.
So when is all this going to happen? Well, the move to the new Bootstrap theme has proven to be a much bigger bite than I anticipated. And combined with the holidays, well, I'm still chewing.  :)
Realistically, I'm going to need another week or two to put the finishing touches on a few screens, update the help pages and fully test the new system. So look for an update sometime mid-January.
Of course, I'll keep y'all informed right here too.
Happy New Year!
Jason

I'm a beneficiary of his generosity, so it's payback time.  He does a wonderful job, and is unjustly modest about his web capabilities.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
