South Australian approaches to rail crossings in rural areas.

It looks like SA is going a little overboard with approaches to rail crossings in rural areas. I've seen two that have been zoned down to 80kph from 110 and three advance rail crossing warning signs at 200 metres apart in both English and the sign pictured. It's nearly as stupid as our 24/7 25kph school zones.

In Japan you have to come to a complete stop at all level crossings so to me dropping down to 80 is nothing.  All the ones I approached in Victoria drop to eighty and there usually is a second sign just in case you missed the first.  I must admit I am not a fan of the "when children present" at school zones and prefer something that is more definite (ie. fixed times or flashing lights).

There is a crossing north of Kyogle, just to the south of Wiangaree village. The road runs parallel to the line and when approaching the crossing, its a left, the crossing and then a right.
There used to be lots of accidents at that crossing.

They have lowered the speed from 100 km/h to 70 and put up big warning signs.

This has reduced the accident rate.

I like Victoria's attitude, replace all crossings with over or under passes. Makes it safer and creates jobs.
