Anyone Know This One?
« on: January 06, 2018, 08:32:52 PM »
For sale in VIC:

Might do for conversion to a sidecar.  Any information would be appreciated.

Would need to take off those driving lights.

Looks to be in schmick condition.  The big HIDs do tend to dominate the bike, but I bet they throw a beam down the road!
There's a guy in Brissie who is an expert on adapting these to sidecars.

Looks to be in schmick condition.

129,000km on the clock.

There's a guy in Brissie who is an expert on adapting these to sidecars.

Good sidecar guys are getting scarce.  Some of my riding Melb. mates only recommend one, and there's a long waiting list.  Another in Mt Gambier.

Brissie?  A good excuse for a ride!

Only 4 inch ones as I have the same design. The ones on this bike look like spots where mine are Eurobeam; sort of a spot and flood hybrid

It is not cheap to fit a sidecar. Complete outfits are often on Bikesales and Gumtree

Here is an ST1100 with leading link fork conversion

I've noticed that one already, but (in my view) a fair bit over-priced.  At least that's my initial reaction, might change my view if I had a look and it is really, really schmick.

The blue one in the pics is on eBay, currently at $1,600.  I got a message back from the seller and there's no reg. or rwc, which will probably add another $1,000 to $2,000 - so that's not the bargain I first hoped.

I think I'll just keep looking .............

Oh yeah!

I have not ridden, I have what one might say "driven" one, back in the 70's.  At least that's how I remember it, before I crashed.

Before I got mine I did a training course with Ural. After few hours I could comfortably do a figure of 8 in a paddock with the chair wheel in the air but I am still feeling my way on the road after about 10 hrs. Right hand corners are great fun, left hand corners well getting there. Still learning where the side car wheel is and where the edge of the car is. The Ural guy spoke about a lady who picked up her new outfit. When asked if she wanted some training said no as the boyfriend will ride it home. They got to the first round about, right hand turn followed immediately by a left hand turn. Sidecar ended up upside down in a ditch with her and the boyfriend in hospital. So you really do need to spend time reprogramming the brain. I think there should be a special sidecar license. But hey that red ST1100 looks nice. An ST13000 outfit sold not long ago in SA.

Add say at least $10,000 for forks and car and only 41,000 kms you would be lucky to do any better even if it is average.
I paid $10,000 for my 88 GL1500 outfit plus transport from Brisbane plus engineering approval (it was imported from Japan and unregistered) plus had to redo all the side car electrics as well as modify the mounting for the righthand front brake caliper and now it has a very slight coolant leak inside the tupperware some where. But it does have reverse gear and Theresa loves it.

..... Right hand corners are great fun, left hand corners well getting there......

You are must be a slow learner.
 :Whipped

A mate had an early Ural or Cossack or something like that (well, it was nearly 45 years ago).  We took it down to Venus Bay VIC, rode it around the empty gravel subdivision roads and on the beach.  Left corners were very kool, lifting the sidecar wheel off the ground, and right corners were very fast.

The brain in those days didn't need re-programming, as it wasn't very well programmed for the motorcycle by then any way.  That came in 1974 and 1975 when I got my first serious bikes and started to ride a lot.  Before then it was just mini bikes and paddock bikes, which we would fall off and crash more than ride.

The sidecar crash came at a left corner when I forgot about the side bit, hit a road side tree and made more than a dent on the sidecar mud guard and bent the wheel or stub axle.  That ended a fun day and a friendship.

Some of you may remember Phil who attended the 2017 NatRally with me (Suzuki GSX1400).  Phil and I toured Tassie back in 2014.  Due to a leg injury (sustained after we booked our trip) which left unable to hold his motorcycle upright with his left leg after coming to a stop, Phil purchased a Suzuki GSX1400 (not the same one as he had at Wooli) and sidecar from a guy in Devonport.

Big Bob, saying goodbye to his outfit:

Day 3, sidecar wheel almost off the road:

Phil hadn't ridden/driven a sidecar before that, but after a day of Tassie twists and turns, he was tossing it around like a pro.  He likes the sidecar so much, he's bought another two.

Anyway, a long way off, perhaps ........ plenty of thinking time.

Phil wants to sell me his Suzuki GSX1400 and sidecar, but I'd then have to join another Forum - I have too many passwords in my head already.

Anyone interested in sidecars and wanting a reason to go for a ride? Hoping there will be few interesting ones at Whyte-Yarcowie 3/4 Feb.
I am flying in to Adelaide for a few days in Victor Harbor with the plan being to do a day trip to the Gathering on the Saturday with my mate from Victor.

Phil probably did more kms on his first day in Tassie than I have done to date and mine have been broken up with over 11,000 kms on the GL1800 plus 1,000 or so on the ST during that time.

There were about 12 GSX1400 outfits at the 2016 Border Run. Apparently all produced by some one in Perth. They were continuing on from the Border for a trip into SA/NT

Thanks Glen, I have heard of this before, a few mates are regular attendees this and other similar events.

Anyone ...... wanting a reason to go for a ride?

What is thing "reason" you speak off?  Something that some of us would be unfamiliar with ..........
:thumbs

Nigel sent me a link to a nice looking ST1300 in Bendigo VIC, something I could put a sidecar on, I have been corresponding with the owner, but I fear that it will be out of my price range.

At least three of my mates have GSX1400 outfits.

PS.  I hope I wasn't out of line with the slow learner crack.

PPS.  Ain't Big Bob a charmer?

No Michael not out of line, I just had a laugh about you not be "programmed" enough to remember where the out fit wheel was.

Have you been able to get some costing on fitting a car to a solo bike? If not suggest you do so before buying a solo, if so what sort of dollars have you come up with and did they include leading link forks?
