Why do we crash?
« on: January 16, 2018, 01:38:11 PM »
I'm surprised no one else has picked up on this.

It's a high-tech analysis of our riding behaviours.  Much to be learned here:

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Very Interesting read. I find the thing that takes my eyes off the road ahead most is checking the speedo so I don't get booked.

The incidents of failing to take evasive action reminded me of a doco they did on the Greek ferry incident back in 2000 sometime.

The similar sort thing happened - Interviews from those who survived mentioned that a lot of people just stood around waiting to be told what to do. Their fight or flight response just didn't kick in for one reason or another.

Then there are those who do take evasive action and head into the danger and not behind it; maybe counter steering issues.

I wonder how  different  the results would be in Australia and other countries? I haven't had the pleasure of  riding or driving in the USA so cannot  compare but i recently  spent a month driving in the UK and would suggest from my experience that the Brits would likely have fewer accidents  than we do, mainly because they have far better road manners, they do not dawdle and seemed to have far better situational awareness than the typical Aussie driver.
