My experience of one of these raceway classes wasn't positive.  They billed it as "Cornering and Braking".  It was heavily race-oriented, and my ST13 was completely unsuited to their purpose.  When by 3:00 pm, with an hour left, I pointed out there still hadn't been any braking tuition, they did a session of straight-line emergency reaction braking (which the ST killed, with its ABS).  For my $300 I got about 94 km of track riding.  Add $75 for the leathers I had to rent to be allowed on the track. 
Go for the Stay Upright or HART courses.  Similar money, but aimed directly at road riding, not track.

Thanks Biggles. I've been thinking about doing some 'genuinely useful' road training. I'll look them up.

They mostly use the Mount Cotton track which is quite good.
When they use the Goldie hinterland hills it's even better.

For our Adelaide and SA members, MaryLou Nees at "Garage Motorycycles" at Strathalbyn does one-on-one rider tuition, tailored to what you are looking for.    I've done several training sessions with MaryLou, including "Returning Rider Training" when I got back into motorcycling, "Slow Maneuvering including "U" turns etc", as I was never taught, and "Road (not track) Cornering" as I wanted/needed to improve my skills, and improve my corner speeds.   One each of these sessions I learned heaps and didn't break the bank.

Sadly Garage Motorcycles closed their doors for the last time just before Christmas and the site will re-open as a servo. Apparently they lost the Moto Guzzi dealership amongst other things.

Maybe they still do rider training out of a different base, perhaps even a home base- or the internet.

The Internet ... that's so far away. I don't think I'd want to ride that far for training. Perhaps the ride to get there would be the training.
