Guess what I rode yesterday?.... the all new Honda ST1800 !
« on: April 18, 2018, 06:36:39 PM »
hehehe - my demo ride happened yesterday. The unit did a few hundred kms in Tassie a few weeks ago at Honda's national launch, then it was crated up and sent to Perth. I was the 2nd person in town (other than the dealer) to ride it.

Here's my video demo/review - hastily put together. There are loads of other reviews out there, but figured I'd give my 2c worth as an ST1300 rider.
The verdict? I want one, but have to sell a kidney first.

Interesting insights.  The automatic gears would certainly spoil you- no chance of that (now unheard of) stalling at the lights.
I couldn't justify $45K- that's for the wealthy to throw at a motorcycle.
There's a beautiful BMW1200GT with 1500 km for sale at $28K near Newcastle that has all that has apart from the airbag and DCT. That's still a lot of loot, but at least feasible.
I'd have to agreed about the leg angle- the ST definitely tucks your foot further back than is comfortable, hence the highway peg farkle.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Nice report. Very informative.

The price is the only balking point.
Very similar price to the top of the range Can-am Spyder RT.

I do like the look of this machine, not that I have the cash to drop on one either.

I just wonder how the DCT impacts low speed manouvering. I rely on slipping the clutch a bit when punting around tight spots. Big Ted, what’s your view having ridden one?

I was wondering this too... I was pleasantly surprised... I didn't do a lot of low speed stuff, but it wasn't jerky and was easy and smooth. Like an auto car, I think you'd shift control from your clutch to the brake (rear) to give you that dinner control.

I suspect by reading between the lines that 'dinner' = finer.

That's an informative and comprehensive review Ted, so thanks for that.   As you say, it's a lot of bike, but the price will rule out a huge number of potential buyers.
