Bike Reg is 696.30 and car is 830.40 including insurance.

As you live in Victoria, part of that $696.30 will be the sneaky "road safety tax" which is currently $73.70.
Notice how they don't tell you that on your rego renewal notice, they just lump it in with your TAC...  :well

Actually, that reminds me...When this road safety tax was first introduced, you had to pay it on every motorcycle you owned.
Due to intense lobbying etc this was eventually changed to just the one charge, regardless as to how many motorcycles you have registered.
A bit of a "win" but, we're still lumbered with a "tax" that no other road user group pays...  :cuss

Just a bit of a heads up for any member in Victoria that may have more than one registered motorcycle...
You SHOULD only be paying the "road safety tax" on one motorcycle...
BUT, don't assume Vicroads will automatically only apply it to just the one motorcycle.
You'll need to visit Vicroads and apply for an "exemption" on any other registered motorcycles in your name.

Definitely worth your while @$73.70 a motorcycle... :thumbs

Why on earth would you want to do that??? Is there evidence that demonstrates that NOT having lights on during the day is safer than having them on at all times?

Evidence??? Well, one of the most common accidents between cars & motorcycles are cars doing a right hand turn across in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
If having the headlight on makes it so much easier to see an approaching vehicle, why are there still so many of this type of accident?  :think1

The question in my mind is "How many more accidents would have occurred if headlights weren't on?"  For me, it basically costs me nothing to have the lights on and they "might" help. I wouldn't like to be lying in a hospital bed wondering if the other vehicle driver might have seen me if my lights had been on.

Or...how many accidents have they caused by making it harder to judge how far away the motorcycle is?  :whistle

One of life's imponderable questions I suppose - like, if a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?

If you're not sure how far away  it is you turn in front of it.
