I can testify that petrol tanks hurt. If you stop the above video at 1:46 you well see the indent in the red fuel tank just below the 00 numbers on the wall. That is exactly what the fuel tank looked like on my Suzuki Hustler after I tee boned a Valiant hitting the C pillar. I flew over its boot and doing a perfect forward roll landing flat on my back on the road. My crutch did the the damage to the fuel tank, my knees clipped the handle bars and the piece of fiberglass missing from the back of my crash helmet proved its value.
The report doesn't mention that Honda is already addressing this problem with air bags on some Goldwings.
