Hmm, I don't recall having that issue, but I'll be out on the bike (weather permitting) on Sunday, so I'll give "Home" a try...  :thumbs

Sorry Dave, I forgot all about trying "Home" after the RTE... :-[
I'll try to remember next time I go for a ride!   :X

Thanks, just ordered a 702 via Amazon as I had some credit to use. Got it for $295 less the credit I had. Look forward to setting it up.

How'd you go with your Carpuride screen, Glen?  :popcorn

Hi Dave, sorry, the Alzheimer's must of kicked in and I forgot to tell you I got to try "home" out a few weeks ago...
Anyhow, it worked perfectly so not sure why yours isn't/wasn't working...  :think1

Having a closer look at the Waze map, it shows nothing out here- no roads seem to exist, dirt or otherwise, nor do any towns, which would explain it having trouble finding it's way home.

I have gone back to Google maps, and a separate speedo on the phone screen if I want one.

On the plus side, the screen seems to be working well so far.

Meh. It didn't play well with VLC player, either.

Google works well enough for me at this point, and keeps to the KISS principle.

I have had to get a new phone, as the old Samsung decided that it was time to open the back up, forcefully and without assistance from me. The kid talked me into trying an iPhone...

So far it seems to work well, and doesn't argue with the screen

Dave I understand the iPhone has a particular dislike of vibration and too much doesn't have a good result for the camera on the phone. I guess you'll be carrying it on your person rather than having it mounted on the bike in some manner.

I got the Quad Lock with the vibration dampener
Very happy with it
I purchased mine from ebay but you can buy them direct from Quad Lock
I have the ball mount on both my NT1100 and Spyder
Much better than the Ram mount clamp type
I have the Samsung S22

From Apple, regarding the iPhone and motorcycle vibration. I suspect their main concern is with Harley like vibration, not silky smooth ST humming:

"High-power or high-volume motorcycle engines generate intense high-amplitude vibrations, which are transmitted through the chassis and handlebars. It is not recommended to attach your iPhone to motorcycles with high-power or high-volume engines due to the amplitude of the vibration in certain frequency ranges that they generate. Attaching your iPhone to vehicles with small-volume or electric engines, such as mopeds, scooters, and drones, might lead to comparatively lower-amplitude vibrations, but if you do so a vibration dampening mount or a gimbal is recommended to lessen the risk of damage to your iPhone and its OIS and AF systems. It is also recommended to avoid regular use for prolonged periods to further lessen the risk of damage."

All depends on a person's attitude to risk I guess.

I might add I use the Quadlock dampener but my phone is a cheapskate Oppo. I have no problems attaching it to the bike and the V-Strom's vibration is much more obvious than the ST's ever was.

Thanks for this, Mark. I also use the Quadlock dampener, but it does shake a round  bit, although not enough to wake it up.

Something to think about. Pockets are getting too small for phones these days, or phones are going back to being too big. Give it a few more years and we will be back to bag phones!

I have a Google Pixel 8 Pro and luckily that still fits in my shirt pocket... :thumbsup
Worst part of having it in there though is it makes it look like I have a droopy boob...  :rofl

That time of the year again...

Into the shed for an oil and filter change, air filter check, coolant check, and a new back tyre. It has also got a new set of Iridium spark plugs, just because I have no idea how long the old ones have been there for, although I have put a hair over 40,000 kms on them. They still look ok, and were a nice grey colour, so they have become the spare set, not that I expect to actually use them.

Fuel consumption issues have taken a back seat for the moment. More important things to do to the old girl.

I had a bit fun last weekend. Coming home from a run to town, I just happened to check my mirrors to see a cloud of white smoke coming out from under the seat. Panic, pull over (quickly) and lift the seat to see that the trailer wiring was on fire! Quickly smack the flames out with my gloved hands and start pulling burnt wire and plugs out. Fortunately, the fire self-extinguished when the 12 volt feed came apart, as it was the indirect cause of the fire. The cable tie holding the loom to the tow-bar had broken, allowing the 7-core to rub through on the back tyre, causing a dead short in the 12 volt.

This is the second time this has happened, although the last time nothing got hot.

I have solved the problem this time. I have moved the socket from on the back guard to a bracket on the tow-bar, and added a piece of tube to the bar for the cable to hide in.
No more broken cable ties for me, and very lucky that the damage was confined to the trailer wiring and the tool kit pouch.

Good solid mod.  I like wire routing that avoids all manner of movement since bikes are notorious for mid-to-high frequency vibrations that challenge every component, attachment and bit of cargo.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Aaaand...The finished product under the seat. The plastic amour goes down to the top of the steel tube on the towbar, and there is more on the wire between the bottom of the tube and the trailer socket. It might only be four inches at each end, but I am taking no chances.

Now I just have to make a new pouch for the toolkit. Might try black leather this time...
