Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋

So 2day marks 3 weeks.
I'm still in Liverpool hospital in isolation trying to get rid of this infection.  All the teams seem happy with how I'm travelling albeit slow.

I fainted during a back to bed tfer 2 days ago which required them to use a horse lift to get this old cow back into bed 🐮.

The xray yesterday highlighted more prominently a tiny fracture in the L ankle that happened in the accident not the fall. They treat it just like a sprained ankle.

Hoping for more physio today just to get out of laying down...I  WANT UP!!

No word on moving closer yet.

Keep sending all the good thoughts, big part of recovery.

Missing Karl & everyone so much.
Love you all

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋
Well I'm at week 5 2day....wow & desperately in need of a hairdresser.

Looks like the drain is going to be having with me for quite a while yet,  mention is up to 3 months. They need to make sure the site repairs properly before removing it. Was a little disappointing 😞.

On a brighter note,  I walked with a crutch yesterday with the physios which was exciting & a little liberating 😊.
Hoping to try again today with the hope to be unassisted for the bathroom...🤞

Moving to Wagga is now big discussion with the teams with the drain and orthopedic & hands picking up the follow ups in Wagga as they have the facilities. They are also concerned about the my mental state being separated from Karl for so long.

So still moving in the right direction and keeping everything crossed I continue on this path.

Thanks to everyone that gave been in to visit, your faces brighten my days. To everyone that calls and sends message,  it's lovely knowing that so many people care.

Have a great FriYAY & wkend
Love Kimmie 🥰🥰🥰

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋
Well 6 weeks today & what a rollercoaster ride it has been.

Tfer to Wagga has been vetoed & now on the tfer list to Albury, waiting for a bed. Don't ask, it's politics.

The pigtail drain came out yesterday, so no more drains YAY!! Still require 1x surgery to remove 2x stints in 4wks time on the liver.

Physio are happy with my progression, think I'm the only patient who does their homework 😊. Found another finger injury which now has its own splint which doesn't come off until Xmas day...thanks 🎅

So moving in the right direction & being patient.

Have a great FriYAY and wkend.
Thanks for all the well wishes & support.
Love Kimmie 🥰❤️🥰❤️

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋
Well 7 weeks ago today, old man Emu met his match but put into a whole new world of surviving.

With several CRACK teams of Dr's, surgeons, physios & nurses, they put me back together & worked tirelessly with me to achieve a positive result. I cannot thank them all enough.

The cast came off on Tuesday arvo & Karl appeared from around the curtain & it was all too much & tears & cries of My Sweety could be heard through the ward. To me it was like a love story moment 🥰🥰.

I've done a lot of hard work & gone through the wringer in this 7 wks & it has paid off.

Today, I update you from the discharge lounge, while I wait for Karl to collect me and we start the journey home..YAY!!!

I still have a long way to go with rehab but heading in the right direction 😀

Thank you all again for you support as it has helped immensely.
Love Kimmie 🥰 🥰🥰

Thanks everyone!!!

We arrived home yesterday safe & sound to excited doggies & good clean country air.

I've got a reclining camp chair set up on the back deck so I can catch some vitamin D & rehab at the same time.  Also is a great place to grab a little nap between physio :D.

Karl is being marvellous as you'd expect & getting used to the dingy bell of Kimmie :p

Will continue to keep you updated

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋
Well been home a week now & as Dorothy said "there's no place like home"!! Karl has been awesome & the menu & food are much improved from the hospital options. Not to mention the furbabies who I missed...they were happy mummy is home.

Many Dr's appts have been made and the rehab road begins. The hours of physio a day are increasing with each appt which will hopefully result in a good recovery.

Discomfort apposed to pain is a constant but wil ease over time...fingers crossed.

I'm learning that sleep & rest are paramount to recovery & not just an old wives tale. So between physio you need rest to prepare for the next round.

So I'm doing ok & I'm on the right road, just got to keep following what the Dr's say. Will keep you updated.

Have a great FriYAY & wkend

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋
Today marks 10 weeks since the story of the emu began.
The last 2 working weeks (10 days) have been filled with 8 days of Dr's appts, 1x final SUCCESSFUL surgery & lots of travel to get everywhere & rehab in amongst everything. To say I'm exhausted is probably an understatement.

Things are moving in a positive direction with the rehab a couple of degrees at a time (as that is how the measure things). Again all the rehab you have to do pays off even though it is arduous & painful at times. Slow and steady wins the race as they say and there are no shortcuts.

Karl has been a trooper, ferrying me around to everywhere & making sure my nutritional needs are met....gotta live a cheffy hubby.

So staying positive, doing everything that my therapist ask of me & I'll be nearly as good as new (in an extended period of time).

Happy FriYAY & have a fabbo weekend!!

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋
12 weeks today and boy have I come a long way. From being bed ridden for 4 solid weeks, going through septic shock, learning to walk, use my arm/fingers again and rehabilitation at home - who'd have thunk it!!

Telehealth call yesterday with one of my trauma Dr's from Liverpool Hospital went really well. The team were amazed that they were releasing me from hospital at 7 weeks but did say "I was the best patient they've had in a long time". Hard work and sheer determination pays off.

All other rehab/physio is a slow road as I  mentioned at the 10week mark. Unfortunately there are no short cuts and the body sure as hell let's you know when you are doing the wrong thing or haven't done enough of the right thing. I've a few more degrees of movement in my wrist but it is still pretty much like a fence post (rigid). Working on my fingers with simple actions you take for granted...like opening the draw that has a bar handle (which I couldn't do last week) so there is progression but it's slow.

Karl, the furbabies & I are otherwise doing ok. We are learning new levels of time and patience requirements. I've also learnt that asking for help can be a great thing and that taking it slow and steady is better than being quick and dead (a bit extreme I know but funny how events put life into perspective).
All in all life is good.

I'd like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
Take care if you are travelling.
Thank you for being there for me.

Will catch you all up after
Xmas.

Happy FriYAY & have a great weekend.
Love Kimmie xxx

Hi Everyone 👋 👋 👋
16 weeks, boy how the time flys.
Hope you all had a fabulous Xmas & New Year. Karl & I enjoyed a quiet one with his folks visiting, eating fabulous food and having Mango Daiquiri's for breaky (as you do) 😊.

Continuing with the multiple physio that's required and have made great progress with my hips and ankle. The hip/ankle therapist is happy with the recovery that she has said I can start line dancing again but to pick the dances carefully 🤠. Also doing a bit of housework which is a physio session in itself on all fronts. Again selective in the chores I do, not trying to do everything in 1 day and have Karl pick up the balance. So getting back to a bit of normality.

Am able to walk 2km in one go now which is really impressive considering when I got home I couldn't get to the letterbox. Still no driving so rely on my ever supportive Sweety to chauffeur me around.

On the hand front, it's a little bit of a different story. I'm making progress but it is much much slower than everything else. My hand therapist is happy with the hard work I've put in to get this far. However after meeting with the fracture clinic & requiring further CT scans during the xmas break, the Albury surgeon wants to operate again. Appears that a couple of the screws in the plate are impinging on areas of my wrist, affecting my ongoing rehabilitation and how much use of this hand I will have in the long run. I have an appointment with the surgeon next week to discuss in detail what all this entails as I am a tad bit nervous about this.

On the plus side, I can now pick up a can of drink, open a draw, turn the door handles, use pegs, put on a sock & brush my teeth with my right hand. Working on a coffee cup as the weight and handles are a little more difficult, but I'll get there.

Lack of being able to use my right hand arm has resulted in frozen shoulder which isn't pleasant & extremely painful. So in addition to everything already going on am now dealing with this also.

How's the mental state, most people seem to be worried about it. Look to be totally honest, I'm OK. Get a little frustrated sometimes & wish I could get more sleep than I do. I don't dwell on what's happened, look forward to what I can do with each milestone and have a goal to get a new bike and punch out some kilometres in helmet space...all pretty positive I my book.

That's about it for now. Look after yourselves & have a happy FriYAY.
Love Kimmie xxx
