Hi Jonathon, sorry about the news re. the bad back. I have complete empathy, sympathy and understanding as I have suffered from lower back pain for many years - sometimes okay, other times requiring some pretty heavy pain drugs - they're wonderful at the time, but can lead to some pretty awful unintended side effects and other long-term issues.
It was pretty much under control until March 2023 (I had my "off" on the Great Alpine Road), when the impact on the road upset the "under control" situation. It wasn't until earlier this year when I went under the knife and now only suffer some pretty mild, bearable pain (no drugs needed) as long as I limit other activities - no running or heavy lifting, no gardening or lawn mowing (that's what I told Helen), only short walks, etc..
Fortunately, I can ride the push bike and motorbikes. The push bike riding is actually therapeutic - it seems that leaning forward takes weight / pressure off the back and opens up the gap between the discs. The specialist has said that it's not surprising and encourages my pushbike riding.
Cheers, chin-up, there's light at the end of the tunnel, just find the tunnel.
