iPhone mount
« on: October 20, 2012, 09:19:11 PM »
With the ST1100 I used a Garmin GPS mounted in a RAM and a non-touch screen iPod in a Aqua box, all awhile my iPhone sat under utilised in my jacket pocket with GPS, Music and phone.......

So with the new ST1300 I set about using the iPhone......so the issues that needed to be overcome with the iPhone.......mounting, charging, waterproofing, conductive touch screen and connection to helmet. The connection to Helmet is solved with one of DMME Bikecom systems, give GPS and Phone to your helmet via Bluetooth and achieving stereo music via 3.5 stereo plug into phone, all to easy......

So enter a lifeproof phone case.....waterproof (2 mtrs), shockproof etc even with stereo plug attached....($40 to $65), a lifeproof belt holster....($35) a RAM 1" ball diamond plate ($10) & RAM std double B clamp ($16) and a Dremel with a couple of small stainless bolts.

A small grinding job on the rear of the life proof belt holster (and don't fit the supplied belt clip) to make the rear of the cradle flush and attach the RAM plate......another small grind with the Dremel on the holster to allow the charging port on the lifeproof case to open for the charger and your away.....

The conductive touch screen issue is over come by the purchase of a reel of conductive thread ($4) and sow a patch into the tip of your glove on your chosen finger and your done.

Now running Tom Tom or VMS for navigation, music playing, phone connected, SMS readable, iPhone in waterproof RAM mount on the Helibars.....charged via cig plug in glove box.

Thought this may help someone with a similar desire......

Cheers

Chris

I played around with all this stuff for years, ever since I used to ride with a cassette recorder in my pocket in the early 70's

In the end I brought me a Garmin Zumo GPS that's waterproof :thumbsup that has heaps of storage for Mp3 music, syncs with my phone through Bluetooth and hooks up to my Autocom.
Phone stays in my pocket so is waterproof :rofl

The screen works with my gloves on. All my phone details can be accessed via touch on the Zumo and Contacts for dialing is real easy, and when someone calls, one touch of the screen answers the call :thumb

My advice is???? Don't mess around with junk you'll only end up replacing. Get stuff that works the first time, and you'll save heaps of money :runyay

The Zumo's music screen is just most excellent and access to all your music is just a touch including separate volume controls
