Visor on ST13: Who would have thought!

I would never have believed this unless i saw it with my own eyes. 
Recently i purchased a new Hot Grips kit (heated grips) for the ST13. A much needed accessory as i am in Tassie - they could potentially be used 10 months of the year (if your 'soft'). Anyway I put them on for 6 months ago i reckon. All is good. Until recently, i went on a big ride and we stopped afterwards for a chat... I parked the 'girl' in the sun. it was a reasonably warm day - probably 30deg at most. Went home that evening , and a couple of days later noticed something perculiar.... The controller for the hotgrips looked like it had melted... (see image). It was bizzare?! How could this have happened, I haddent even had them on for a month or more? I was 'bamboozled'.     
Anyway i took the bike back to the place i bought the hotgrips from and got a replacement controller (Honda Aust). I showed the sales guy. He had the explanation, but said I prob wouldnt believe him. Apparetly ST13's are prone to this, The windscreen magnifies heat and melts plastic if hot sun directs light to the affected area/s, he has seen some plastic on the standard dash begin to warp/melt. He also said that was why the police (when they used ST13's) put in tinted visors to stop this happening.
So there you go - watch where you park the ST13 when in the Sun and the screen up!

I have the same controller in the same position, which I've had for a few years, and have ridden and parked on 40 degree days with no problem.   However, I do have a Bike-Quip screen with a very slight smoky tint.

The melting dash problem has happened to a few, but you would need to be unlucky to have it that bad.

What's the verdict on the Bike-Quip screen V OEM ?

Skip, I found the OEM screen to be unacceptably noisy and on a recommendation from a pommy ST rider who was in Australia a couple of years back, I bought a Bike-Quip screen.  It's a little wider and higher than the OEM and has a turned up lip across the top edge.  It's bloody brilliant, being significantly quieter than the OEM job.

+1 for Bike-Quip.....50mm larger all round, and about 5mm thick.

No problems here, but as habit I always put the screen down when stopping.

Im that unfortunate height where the wind comes off the screen and clobbers my helmet. I wouldn't mind getting a taller screen, but in Townsville on a hot summers day, you want SOME sort of breeze whilst riding

Thanks for that. Heard other good reports about the Bike-Quip screen. Seems like a balance between a quite screen and one that allows a 'fair' airflow is hard to find. 
Seems like the Bike-Quip is a good compromise.
