Diesel, a more interesting road in my opinion is to go to Stanthorpe then across to Texas. There are some 25Km/h corners on that road. Also watch for coppers with their revenue books near the dam on road to Boonah.

Great stuff thanks mate. I was in for your suggestion - only it adds 40 mins to the trip which I don't really have. But I have locked it in for as soon as opportunity presents itself.

It's 12 km further to go down to the Stanthorpe turn-off.  The advantage I see is it avoids that horrible boring Cunningham Highway west of Warwick.  I guess I'm just looking for something different.  Not sure how they arrive at 40 minutes extra.  I think I can do 12 km in less that 40 minutes on country roads.

Steveo is right about the Coppers in that dam area.  The road has been rebuilt to a much higher standard that the old twisty road, and then of course, the speed limit lowered!

I agree with you and Google.  In fact the first map shows both routes as well as a highly unlikely run up through Pittworth.
There are no 110 kph roads in that area.
I have no problem with your going via the northern route.  It's certainly quicker.  The southern route rolls into Texas right to the pub, so I'd save a minute there.

Gaz has just managed to get one of the guys to cover his shifts at work so he is back in for the ride

And Carrol has decided to join in if she is feeling well enough on the day (I'll just have to take it easy with lots of breaks for her we'll just have to leave early and meet up with everyone at Texas )

I've checked out the maps to the Lunch at the Stockman's Hotel, and if I leave here by 7-7:30 I should be able to make it there for lunch as well.

So my plans for this ride:

Thursday:  Finish work and ride up to (or around) Tamworth for an overnighter (No idea where I'm staying yet)
Friday:       Leave Tamworth in time to get me to Vince Strang's bike shop in Inverell for 1:00pm for my 24,000 kms service
                 Collect the Pan and check into accommodation (find someone to have few beers with!)
Saturday:  Breakfast some in Inverell and then travel up to QLD to meet up with others for lunch.
Saturday:  Return to Inverell and enjoy fellow Ozstocers company
Sunday:    Have a good feed of breakfast and unfortunately ride straight back to sunny Sydney for work Monday morning.

I'll be testing my new seat, wind deflectors and a new APP I've downloaded from Swann Insurance which allows you to track your route, take photos and link them to your journey to share online and a few other features.  Can't wait.
