Running in

Another interesting article. Probably a bit late for most of us!  Whoever ran my ST1100 in must have done ok, as it is humming along.

So the bottom line is, ride it sensibly with a good mineral oil.  No lugging or high revving for the first 1000 kays or so and no synthetic oils for the first 10,000 kays.  Apart from that, just ride normally, keeping an eye out for high temps if the traffic is heavy or the ambient temp is high.

Pretty easy, compared with the old engines that needed "running-in" oil.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Good article, Saaz.

Don't know if I'll ever use it tho cause I've only ever bought a new car or bike twice and much prefer to let someone else do all the compulsory services during the warranty period.  :clap

Good article!  I rode my bike out of the showroom at Rocklea, Brisbane with zero kls on the clock and headed for home 2283kls away! The first 150 kls was through blinding rain so my speed on the highway ranged between 80-90 kph, only having to change gears once or twice. After calling it quits I stayed overnight in a Motel and headed off first up next morning. Clocked up 1157 kls that day, varying my speed between 80-100kph, with very short bursts up to 120 after about 1000kls and a couple of quick spurts a bit faster again. I pretty much kept that going all the way home, just increasing my average speed a little the further I went. I had my oil changed on the way at about 1300kls and change my oil now every 10,000 kls, using semi synthetic. I'm pretty happy with the way it was run in and it's never missed a beat. :grin
