Nice to see an old thread with some new posts, let's get this moving again. In the meantime, a little andecdote and a slight diversion, but still bridge related.
At the Council I worked for, one of the team leaders in my department was a lovely fellow from the sub-continent, he had a lot of experience building and maintaining bridges in the old country. Due this experience, when he was with the RMA (Roads & Maritime Authority?) in NSW, a major task he was assigned was the inspection and reporting on every timber road bridge in NSW. In his portfolio that he presented at his interview was a copy of his report, it was very impressive, many, many pics.
Sadly the reported has probably been archived at a location reminiscent of the closing scene of one of the Indiana Jones' movies, and the pics will never see the light of day ever again.
