Sad news

but at least it had a 'Vikings Funeral' and went out in a 'Blaze of Glory' rather than ending up clapped-out or worse still a twisted wreck at the side of the road.

I'm sure if you could ask bikes how they would want to go to the next world, they'd prefer a cremation.

Glad you're ok and hope it was insured.

Thank you all for the heart felt replies.
The final sad part came yesterday as she was unceramonialy flat dragged onto a tilt tray truck. Face has now returned to normal colour, just feels a little sunburnt. Now waiting on the insurance assessors.

Commiserations STeveo - what a bummer m8!

B4 the Ballarat trip I was servicing the air filter on my ST1300 and the fuel hose ruptured emptying half a tank on the carport concrete. As I had just completed an oil change by running Wyvern until he was hot b4 draining the oil, I was worried that the hot engine vapours might ignite the fuel vapours and I was wondering how fast I could get into the house to retrieve the fire extinguisher.

Your situation went to that worst case scenario and as the others have implored I m so glad u were not injured.
Hope u find a gr8 replacement ASAP.

Good 1 Bill! That pair of pliers I use all the time, however it has no protective coating at all and was left out in the rain just once and it rusted almost instantly. 2moro I will give it some CRC spray and a good work over - promise!

Pulled my 1100 down last weekend to try and replace the nuetral switch. Pulled the tank out, but my left hand felt cold, took a whiff and my hand had that petroleum smell to it!!

The fuel return hoses that come from the rear of the carby banks had deteriorated and split, from there the fuel drains straight onto the alternator ( BOOM ).

Looks like I was very lucky, could have been a copy cat incident.

This looks like a possible explanation for the cause, I will have to check mine.

The insurance money came through today. Have decided to sit on it and save up for a while and will probably look for a '05 on 1300 (red would be nice).

Still be riding my Honda 650 Dominator so will park around the corner at the next RTE.

Had a chat with service manager at Honda Shop today about this, his opinion is that we are probably correct in assuming this is the cause.

The parts manager has never sold these hoses, he is now getting 5 sets from Japan for stock, I will be taking 1 set as insurance.
