tyres are tyres ? please any advice

hi guys and girls. im looking to replace my tyres on my st1100 ,, at present i have battle axes bt023. . but looking for a change, as the bt023 seem to be hard to find.. any ideas guys? what other tires would suit the old st1100.  thanks in advance for your input... ride safe

I have the GT (heavy bike) spec tyre on mine and run the 170/60 (from 1300) on the rear and imported from the US. The standard T30 tyre has standard 1100 sizes if you go that way.

The Michelin PR 4 seems to be the tyre to have at the moment and again you'll need the 1300 rear as there's no 1100 size (160/70).

thank you for the reply alan.. i really think the pr3 and 4 s are over priced .. i realize  theirs no  room for cost cutting when it comes to tyres but tyre prices are ridiculous these days

The PR3/4 are a bit expensive, but worth it as they last a long time and handle well

Yep.  When the Bridgies do 24,000 plus kays, then you can compare "like with like".
As Brock says, they handle well, and even if the cost per tyre km is a bit higher, they are worth it just to be in the fashion.  No really any extra cost is easily justified by the great wet performance and general handling.

I'm running my first pair of T30's on my '99 ST1100A and I couldn't be happier. So far none of the wear problems that I had with all three pairs of BT023's. Too early to tell how many K's they will achieve, but probably won't be many more than the (roughly)18,000 Km I was getting on the BT023's.

Of course, with the ABS, I have very little choice when it comes to tyres,

You should be ok with the 1300 rear even with the ABS. The ABS/TCS calibrates every time we start up and the 1300 rear (170/60) is a better option if a standard 1100 tyre isn't available.

I couldnt find any PR4's (no stock anywhere in the country), so went with the PR3's for my 1100.  Very happy with the performance after 2,500km.  Went 1300 sizes and the boy feels far better then the old BT023's.  Paid $400 fitted, was pretty happy with that too...

I have nothing but praise for the PR3s... 34,000 on the front, 32,000 on the back, and still going - with a new set of PR4s in the garage waiting.

Obviously, riding style and your use of the throttle has the greatest impact.

I didn't have a problem with the original BTs, but the PR3s do handle better (not that I flog it and notice a big difference) and obviously last longer.

It mystifies me that some of you blokes get such high milages out of your tires. I generally get about 12k out of a rear, and about 10k out of a front. Most of my riding is on some rather dodgy back roads, but I am light on the throttle and brakes.

Correct tyre pressure is one critical factor for long life.    Use 42 psi front and rear and check them very regularly.  Even a couple of psi low will carve them up.

wow that cheap.. i got quoted 500 for a set .plus fitting.. but then again im in nsw ,, every thing is more expensive in this state.
where about in Brisbane did you get them fitted..? i may have to go catch up with a few mates and get some new feet up there.

i run 40 in the rear and 39 up the front .. my motor  physico  is none abs

I don't know who is on the southside.  You could call Teammoto at Nerang for a price.  They are Honda dealers also.  Further north there are several m/c dealers at Springwood.

thank you all for your comments, my bike is none ABS ex police bike.. ive been told i have to run 110 on the front.. can i run a 120 up on the pointy end ?
