SA has certainly had our fair share of wierdos over the years, but the first prize has got to go to the midget bushranger, John Peggotty.
He had the stature of a seven year old, and rode around the Coorrong area on an ostrich, half naked, draped in stolen gold jewelery, packing ornamental pistols, murdering and robbing. He and his ostrich were shot during a robbery, but his body was never found. The estimated million dollars worth of gold that he stole was never found either, so treasure hunters, get out your metal detectors and start searching the hundreds of square kilometers of Coorong sandhills. In the meantime, you can have your photo taken on the recently installed statue of an ostrich on the foreshore of Meningie.
