Cheap eTrex E10s
« on: December 05, 2014, 06:37:10 PM »
JB Hifi has a special on.

Recommended retail is $139.00

JB HiFi Price is $76.80 !!

If you don't know what an eTrex is, you probably don't need one.    :grin

But they're great for logging your ride, especially if you don't have a GPS for the bike.
They're a Garmin product, and so of a good quality.
And if your Engrish is dodgy, there are 6 different manuals that might include your preferred lingo.

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I didn't know what one was until now (never heard of) and I still don't need one.

The GPS app I use on our phones and tabs will show the route travelled where my car GPS doesn't.

Thanks for that Biggles.

I've an old version but it's push-bike and hiker only but very handy for keeping track of my traps.

Is your example like the one on Wombattles bike?

That is dirt cheap  :eek I use the earlier version of the etrex for all manner of Bike and non bike GPS duties.....brilliant for moving average  :like

Mine is mostly used for UTM coordinates and topographic map stuff at work.

Gatey it's the same Etrex I use and that's a very good price.  I reset the stats at the beginning of a ride and it gives me my speed, moving average, moving time and most importantly for me with time sensitive rides my time stopped and overall average.  In terms of proving the distance in an IBA ride they are fantastic.  Both OX and I are happy to submit ride lengths based on a photo of the etrex stats at the end of a ride.  It allows us to cut the rides to the wire in terms of distance without being concerned that the IBA might disallow a ride for being too short.

TigerBill reckons 2 full days out of the batteries.  I use lithiums in mine and I've got 5 full days.
The only down slightly annoying feature with this model is the screen, you have to push the light button to see what it says in the dark. I usually only check it at stops at night anyway.  I use it as the speedo in the daylight because it's easier to see than the GPS, Having said that, if I needed another one I'd still get the same one.

Here's the etrex for my recent SS2000K ridden on my CBR125R.  If it says 2003kms the IBA won't question the distance.

You can reconfigure the screen to show big numbers and different stuff, here's how OX uses his.

They won't ever replace a GPS. This is the simplest model of the Etrex range.  They definitely aren't for everyone.

That's exactly what I wanted to know Craig. The record keeping has always been my main interest and that speedo.
Cheers guys.

Someone said they ordered theirs online.  But I guess you'd have to add $15 for Courier/ Post.
