Years of Manufacture

Being new here, I'm still getting my head around what's what.
I've been looking for the production years of the ST1100 and ST1300 and when they were available in Australia.
Wiki tells me that the ST1300 production stopped in 2013. Was the bike still available for purchase in 2013?
And similarly, 1990 seems to be when the first ST1100 became available, replaced by the ST1300 in 2002. But I see 2003 & 2004 ST1100s for sale.
I'm a bit confused.
I've probably missed something on the site but is there a table showing VIN numbers & years of manufacture?

My ST1100 is a 2003, but it's a cop version which I believe went through till 2009 or 2010 I think

Don't know when production stopped.   Going by this NZ ad for a 2014 ST1300, not sure if production has stopped:

If they are still being, or are to be built in 2015, it may be too soon in 2015 to know.

I was told Honda stopped bringing them into Oz due to economies of scale.  If that's correct how does that work in NZ with a market around 20% that of Oz.  Go figure ......

This site is all to with the 1100 and put together by an 1100 owner.

http://www.st-1100.com/st1100-parts.html shows the models and the Honda model year e.g. ST1100L (1990) with year in brackets.

The 10th digit in your VIN is the year code so for 1990 so you should have an L in that position. The only issue with the year code in the VIN is that some countries see that as a model year code (car built in 1989 but is a 1990 model) and others see it as the year of production.

And now we come to registration and the confusion that some have.

Some states use only the year of manufacture/year code from VIN on the rego certificate while others also include the year of first registration.

As an example the last ST1100A2 (2002) model might not have got sold until 2003 or even 2004 and some may see that as 2003 or 2004 model as that was the year of first registration though in reality it's a 2002 model.

The only 1100s built in 2003 was the 2003P3 (3 is year code) and only until it was replaced by the 1300 police bike.

The 1300 last build year was 2014 according to some sources but its still showing on some HONDA sites around the globe. Honda Australia did a run out last year.

To get the model year of your bike and this is the model you should give to a dealer if you use one. The 1100s are on the frame under the seat and looks like this

Yes. 

My first thoughts on an ST1300 were after I rode one at the 2013 Ulysses AGM at Maryborough QLD, but at around $24,495 (I think), plus $1,000 for the top box, plus $140 for the heated grips, plus on-roads costs - this was nearly $27K for a new bike - and not much more thought until .......

I was reading a July 2013 Australian Road Rider which mentioned a discount price of $15,990 plus on-roads for the ST1300, which meant I got mine (with above extras) for just over $18K ride away.  I went to two dealers, 'phoned more to be told that the run out models were all sold. 

But they weren't.  I (as I've said before) reckon I got the last new one in Oz.

There's one for sale in W.A. with less than 4,000 kms, 2010 model, cruise control, genuine top box at $17490, so you got a great deal with yours.

The way I read these ads is that there are some new old stock ST1300's with 0 to 1 miles for $US11K to $US12K.  Lucky bastards!!!

In Queensland the last ST1100P registered had a compliance plate dated 2006 and from memory aprox 16,000 kms on the clock when offered for auction. It is in this group of bikes which also included 2003 and 2004 compliance plated bikes.



I was the only one to turn up and had to pay $8,000 for a 2002 model with 79,000 on the clock. The remainder would have gone to dealers for a lot less.

It's easy to check your own bike.

The picture I posted is mine and is placed next the number and matches the number stamped on the frame at time of manufacture.

The 10th digit in the VIN is the model year code and in most cases should match the model number on the frame which is usually under the seat.

X (10th digit) from the VIN in my case meaning 1999, ST1100AX (A = ABS, X = model year), on the compliance plate you should also have month/year of manufacture and in my case it's 6/99

if you have a "Y" then it's 2000 and then 1,2,3 for 2001 and so on. After 2009 the year code will be an A for the 2010 model

The approval number is the number given to Honda to allow it to be sold in Australia it's type approval and it covers all years of the 1100. The rego people can get details about the type of bike just using this number alone.

I think most of the later Police versions sold here were year 2000 manufacture yet would be registered in a later year.

My ST1100 is an ST1100PY (Police version manufactured in 2000) yet it was registered as a 2002 bike.

You can recognise a Police model by a number of variations:

The number of extra switches on the bars, there's an extra switch block inside the throttle fitting on the right hand grip

Spot lights on a bracket under the mirrors - in fact the mirror covers have a different fit to the bike, the non-Police bikes have an insert to cover where these spot light brackets fit on the Police version

There'll usually be an extra wiring loom wound up and wrap sealed under the seat

The Police version has the speedo calibration in 2 km/hr increments instead of the 5 km/hr increments on the civilian bikes.

And the model number on the VIN plate will read ST1100P

You should see it on the RH side of the steering stem.......you may need to turn the bars to the left

The 1100's are in the same place. The month/year of manufacture on mine is next to the top rivet.........took me quite awhile to find it

The manual is wrong then but both numbers should be the same........the frame number is the last five digits in the VIN as well
