Sargent1971's Inverell trip
« on: September 18, 2012, 10:02:57 PM »
Okay so here is how I seen the weekend's events at Inverell.

Very excited going to bed on Thursday Night and like a few other's woke up before the alarm rearing to go on Friday morning.

Left from home at Young by 8:15am heading for Mt Panorama at Bathurst for a couple of Laps (watching the speedo and for :cop as it's strictly a 60 zone) - see link to video (sorry the camera does'nt mount to well and rattles a little hense the background noise)
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/106320491/Bathurst%20-%20Mt%20Panorama.AVI

Pulled over to remove Camera and heard another bike approaching - It was none other than Adam - AJ1300. We had prior arrangements to meet at Mudgee after a short meeting I had with my work so it was a great surprise that he had travelled from Melbourne and we had bumped into each other already. A quick hello and I left him to do his own laps while I rode to Mudgee.

About 2pm and I've met up with Adam in Mudgee and we both head off with a vague idea of camping roadside near Tanbar Springs.
Came across a large group of motocyclists from all walks of life on the road about 45 mins later with a :cop Police Bike escort both front and rear.
Thought this was a little unfair as nobody had rolled out the red carpet for us and clearly we were a lot more important considering the company we were headed to meet and greet.  :rofl

Adam was mighty amused for most of the afternoon as every time he put me in the front to lead the way the bloody birds decided to get a closer look at my fine STeadand my head. :||||

Finally arriving at Tanbar Springs with still a bit of light left we got off to shake the legs and enjoy and ice cream and we pushed on a little further to just outside of Carroll where we found a nice spot of old tar road to park the bikes and roll out the swags.
Day one down for me with 595 km's.

Great chance to finally have a talk and get to know a little of each other while we set up camp and then off to bed early by 7:30 - 8 O'çlock.
:spank (don't wear thermals to bed in a -5C sleaping bag, I woke up about 1:30am with my arms jamed by my sides and wrapped up tighter than a bub in a rug, took me nearly 2 hours to cool down and get back to sleep).

Woke up again about 6:30am with a light frost and about -1C degrees, got the gas cooker going with a bit of water boiling for tea and coffee, packed the bikes and we were back on the road bound for Inverell about 7:30am.

Rode through some great roads on Saturday and the Bakery at Bingara was and excellent stop for breakfast before the Copeton Dam rd. The works going on at the Dam are huge and the roads were nice but a little sketchy in places. Finally arrived at Inverell by 11:30am and waited for the bikes to start to rolling in.
Day 2 down and 233 km's.

Was a blast to meet everyone and see all the bikes lined up, the nights meal and morning breakfast was excellent and those things alone will have me doing more distances like this again and again (Streak and the rest of the gang who organised all this - Your Legends and THANK YOU)
A special mention to the Inverell Lions club - Both meals were Excellent and thank you all for your efforts to keep the many mouths fed.

Sunday Morning breakfast all done and quite a few km's to get done for myself and Adam seen us leaving at 8:00am with lots of waves from those still trying to devour the bacon and eggs.

So we head off to travel the Thunderbolt's way, Coffee at Gloucester and the onto Singleton for a Fuel stop, Now we follow the Putty Road to Windsor -

A very quick stop at windsor to get our next bearings to meet with the M7 to get the heck outta dodge (sydney).

The 3rd day ended for me at Goulburn where  :fp :fp :fp I went to get off at the servo and watched my bike fall onto it's side as i forgot to put the side stand down.  :spank (thanks for helping with that Adam).
Day 3 down at 7:00pm with 820 km's in a bum numming 11 hours.

Said my goodbye's to Adam as he decided to try for an all nighter to get him home in melbourne, I was stopping with my parent's in Goulburn.

Day 4 and just 180 easy km's left - just a short breakfast stop at Yass and off to home by 11 am.

All up the trip was fantastic and the company of my riding buddy made it that much more enjoyable (thanks Adam).

Total Km's for the trip was 1,814.

Another top account.
Don't go away thinking you're the only dork who didn't put the side stand down.
I had a funny one on a main drag here in Brissie.  I'd backed down a horribly steep camber to the kerb and was considering not parking there since it felt all wrong.  Changed my mind again and leaned the bike to the left as usual and didn't pay any attention to the fact it was taking a while to touch the stand, attributing it to the slope.  Wrong.  The minute she went over and I stepped off, a Council truck stopped in the left hand lane, put on his rotating beacon and two hefty blokes were right onto getting Ruby back on her legs as the traffic backed up behind them.
Gotta love Good Samaritans!   :thumbsup
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
