Having spent a fortune being here in Tassie, and Kulgera in my plans, I think it's highly unlikely I'll be doing to BR20.

I hadn't planned on doing Border Village this year, however, given the likely dearth of longer rides for the rest of the year this is about the furthermost (by 15 kilometres) a poor boy can ride in a straight line (so to speak) without crossing a State border. And there is every chance Julie might like to accompany me. Something to look forward to!

At this stage, we cant get out of Perth, let alone go to the border..

I thought the checkpoint was in Yalata, although I could be wrong.  It would take a few drastic events and stars aligning for me to make this year's border run if it were to go ahead.

Hmmmm . . . Hadn’t given this much thought because of the COVID19 situation, but if it does go ahead, I might very well do it. . . Probably on my ST1300 this year!

Might book a cabin just in case.

I'm pretty confident the checkpoint is at Border Village. I also hope the SA/WA border will be open by August given that State is full of clean living, compliant and healthy residents - much like SA.

Unfortunately our premier while opening WA regional intrastate travel a little next week he is talking about the border not being opened until a lot later. Hope he comes to his senses. I am still planning on the border run followed by Mudgee in October but not confident about being able to do either.

I reckon he's kidding himself if he's waiting for a vaccine - it is already being suggested the virus is mutating and there is more than one strain floating around and so there is no guarantee that a vaccine developed now will have a long protective life. I fear it may be like HIV - no vaccine, just really effective treatments and heavy reliance on transmission barriers and behaviour change. All idle supposition on my part.

Wombat is the WA co-ordinator for  F/R, a decision on the border run will be made in july.

FarRiders have cancelled this event as formal Long Distance Ride, and are not listing it as a BR20  FarRide, and will also not certify it as a LR (Long Ride).   See the FarRiders web page for more detail.   https://farriders.com/forum15/index.php?topic=12749.20

I must admit that it is a bit disappointing given that other States appear to be having Far Rides considered as State based rides. Then again the BV ride is a special ride in the FarRiders calendar and their normal rules don't apply. I haven't yet cancelled my BV accommodation - who knows, some SA/NT/Qld/NSW riders might still make the effort IF the borders open/remain open.

I had considered doing it as a LR, but Ghosty has pulled the pin on any certified rides to Border Village, and even us SA riders can't claim it.

Just go and enjoy the Border Run for what it truely is & thats nothing to do with FR...they only started going there about 10yrs ago..Border Run has been going a lot longer than that.
As an aside...we might do this as Qld-NT-SA return  :blu13  :13Candy

True. It began in 1977 (according to the BV Roadhouse website) and has continued every year since. I had not intended it to be a FR for me this year as Julie was/is going to come with me. It seems a bit unfair on the Roadhouse given they are still operating - but who knows what the situation will be in 3 weeks. At this stage I'm going to keep my options open - and it's a good run.

Coincidentally, I just noticed that is my and Pete's (old) bikes facing the camera in the picture at the top.

I have kept my booking at BV for both Friday and Saturday nights and have just applied to the WA police to re enter WA without self isolation for 14 days. Shall be interesting to see what they say.

Well I have now given up. Looks like 14 days self isolation to come back into WA.
I have cancelled my BV accommodation.
Shall look for a few days of good weather around that weekend and do a long run some where.

That sucks.  To be honest, I am not sure if most South Australians could get there.  I know we have restrictions on entering Aboriginal Communities,of which Yalata is one and they did have a check point there.  Now whether that means veering off the major highway or traversing it I don't know.  I haven't really looked into it as my my annual leave has been set aside for Mudgee (both in october and march).

I want to do a similar ride so may just go to Eucla but need to confirm what petrol stops are still open. The other option is to go to the Auski Tourist Village, Karijini. A little shorter but similar. So plan is now to check for fuel stops and if available go to Eucla, if not then Auski.
Will take the cheats way and time it as close to the BR weekend as possible but work around some good weather.

I called the Ceduna Police station today and asked whether there are any restrictions on travelling out to Border Village or through Yalata (sticking to the highway) and their advice was there are no restrictions in place. I'm still weighing up my options on this one. The weather forecast looks promising, it's a good long ride and I currently can't think of anything better to do at this time of year  :think1

Where did you get the long range weather forecast ? Best I can find is 10 days.
If the weather is good I may wave at you from the quarantine station  :grin

A mate may be joining uson part of the trip back - work commitments prevent him going the whole hog. If any othe Ozstocer would like to join us at BV - the more the merrier.
