Title: carb needles different front vs rear (or right vs left)
Post by: Asterysk on April 11, 2020, 01:52:13 AM
Wonder if anyone can shed some light on why the main jet needles are a different

My needles:
2 x J1BP
2 x J1BQ

The Official part numbers for my bike (2000 ST1100AY - Police)

16131-MAJ-R00
&
16191-MAJ-R00

It really does appear that Honda designed it this way.

There is a bit of confusion about whether the pairs are split front vs rear or left vs right, I posted a separate message about that in "ask a tech"

-------------------------------------------------------
Carb spec:

No Emission Control (i.e. No PAIR system , No charcoal canister, no washer under the needle )
Jets : 125 & 40

Nope..

We arent familiar with Canada spec vehiclles here in Oz. It may be a pollution requirement.

I think my bike is european spec and runs with no specific emission control

I may have read the parts fiche incorrectly and it could be that the model has different needles left carbs versus right carbs,

If the bikes in Australia don't have specific emission control (PAIR, Charcoal, Air injection) then its probable that some models also have the same left vs right difference

In the version of the parts break down that I have, the needles are part 17, part No NEEDLE, JET
16131-MT3-730.

Both the same.

The USA version (as shown in the partzilla) has the emission stuff so they use the same needles, its only on the non emission variants that it seems to show up

Out of interest, what emission control gear is added to the Australian versions ?

No pollution gear, the needles I posted are the spec for the bike here as far as i understand.
