Archery
« on: April 18, 2021, 09:16:46 AM »
I got into archery a couple of years ago.   It meets my competative drive, and it's a great way to improve my upper body strength, which has taken a beating in recent yers.  Archery has many different disciplines  and styles, and I'm casually shooting 3D at a local range in the hills just 20 minutes from home.   Archery Park is a lovely a bush setting, with four walking courses through the valleys and scrub,  so its a bit like golf.

Here's my kit or the techincally inclined....
PSE Stinger compound bow @ 40#
Axcel Rheotech 5 pin sight
QAD HDX dropaway rest
DeadCentre 9" Stabilizer
Scott Shark Index release

Hi Pete, I remember going to Archery Park some years back to watch my sister-in-law do a bit of casual shooting...  :thumbs

A month ago I joined "Eden Field Archers" just down the road from home, and it's a full on competition club.   I was keen to test myself again other archers.  The club is in a bush setting and we shoot at targets in the bush, placed at ranges from 10 to 60 meters.

I'm doing OK and am not making a fool of myslef with some quite respectable scores.   Today I shot 507 out of a possible 560, good enough to get some congratulations from the top shooters who were scoring around 535.

What are you using? Compound? Recurve? My gear is sitting unloved in the ceiling.

I've been shooting a PSE beginner compound with a single pin hunting sight, but am also setting up another compound as a pure target kit.    Perhaps we could head up to Archery Park one day and go for a walk and a shoot.

I'm looking for some help from someone who's good with MS Excel, so have a look at the attached image of a target bow front sight.  The rear sight is a peep.

The target "head" can be moved up and down to correspond to the distance that I'm shooting, and the 0-100 marks are arbitary numbers to which I can set the sight for the distance that I'm shooting.  ie 15 meters =11  25 meters = 17.5  and 50 meters =38.2 and so on.  ( I have the numbers every five meters fro 10 - 60 meters)

I have determined the sight marks for every 5 meters, by careful shooting of groups and noting the mumber, and reckon by plotting the curve of distance against the sight marks it shoud be possible to calculate the intermediate distances, say every two meters.   Such a thing is beyond my level of skill and knowledge and was hoping someone may be able to help me.

PM is you reckon you can help, and I'll send you some numbers.

Pete, I should be able to help.

Create a table of the numbers
Graph the table
Add a trendline/curve fit
Reveal the variables

Alternatively there are a few functions  which can determine slope and offset.

I like an add-in called XlxtraFun which makes getting the variables very easy.
