You're absolutely correct.
It was an inspired choice by Marcus and Co.  A great backdrop, excellent hardstand slope for the bikes, and the sun was in the right spot, and even stayed out for the photos.
Afterwards we headed off for the Blackwood pub.  Another great choice- pleasant easy ride to a neat little typical Victorian historical village. We had a little time to "kill" before lunch, so an exploration was in order.  Zen bike accessories were made available as well.  After a very satisfying lunch the CFMoto 650 bikes were on display and a few test rides were enjoyed.  The general opinion seemed to be they are manufactured to a good standard and while perhaps a little light-weight for those used to litre-plus bikes, they would be perfect for commuting in traffic.
Sorry- no pix since I'm not set up here to download from my camera.

A short ride back to the caravan park was followed by quick preparations for to evening dinner at the Leagues Club.  This was followed by an amusing and educational talk about the Ballarat goldrush.  Then Streak and Diesel presided over the presentations, details of which will follow soon.  The last busload of revellers has arrived back as I post this.  Diesel has headed off with a couple of cans of "coffee" in search of a stove to turn on (ask Diesel what that is about if you weren't at Blackheath) and I'll soon turn in, since tomorrow is yet another ride day!              :grin

Just a quick thanks at this point to all at the national rally. Although I didn't get the time to talk to everyone, my opinion is that all members of this club are as welcoming to a new member more than I have experienced in most others. It was a weekend of fun, knowledge and great company.

I must single out the most welcoming and easy going couple that met a stranger and made me feel at home instantly. To the Sabie's................Thank you!!!

Well... I finally made it home, after a long exhausting ride back...sigh.

I would like to say a massive thank you. Firstly for showing up :D
And secondly, for making it so very easy for me and Dan.

You guys are the most easy going bunch of people to spend time with.

The weather was... well... At least it didn't rain. And you were all warned to bring to your thermals, haha.

I had a ball and will slowly post up pics, when I can find all my leads and cords again.

Thank you all again. And I can't wait until next year.

Hi all, just a quick line to say a big, ( make that huge) thanks to all that were involved in the prep work for the rally, as it was great.  Venue was terrific, as were all the people that I managed to talk with. Like all things though it was over too quick, but had a great time. Catch up on the next RTE and at next years rally. The story about Tipsy did crack me up.  Oh and a big thanks to Abe for the minor repair on my bike!

Regards Nigel :wht11 :hatwave :hatwave :hatwave :hatwave :hatwave :hatwave :hatwave :hatwave

It was an excellent weekend. Organised very well as Streak says Keep It Simple. But it was more than that. The bus to Saturday night evening meal was an example. It was great meeting a very hospitable and inclusive bunch of people.
I think next year I may head up to Queensland on the XR rather than the car.
I just can't imagine driving interstate and leaving the bike at home.

Thanks for the invite guys and the business for www.zenmotorcyclegear.com.au
Also I am appreciative of the feedback I received regarding the new kevlar hoodie jackets we will be distributing.
regards,
marx

Thank you all for a fabulous weekend.
Such a terrific and welcoming bunch who have much more in common then an interest in a discontinued line of motorcycles.
Simple and well organised congratulations and thanks to all concerned I had a blast and will be at next years with the director.

Getting There
A mishap while servicing my own ST resulted in a very unhappy red dragon 1300 being STranded in the Gong awaiting a piece of fuel plumbing to put the fire back into his belly.
To the rescue came JohnnyBALDHED who agreed 2 my suggestion of a pillion ride to the gold mine city and at 9:30 Friday night we shivered and dripped our way into the holiday park to meet and greet some of the STriders who have become familiar thru the ozSTOC forum.
One of the amazing long-distance WA contingent, Rob (Gavo), found me a spare slumber bunk in the cabin of another WA STrider Bill (Wombat) so I was set for the weekend's adventures.

The Mob
IMHO the best thing about the club (other than the admiration of the ST) is the diversity. This club is not exclusive so it's not important that u actually have an ST and it's not important that u have a Honda and it's not important that the motorcycle u have has more than 2 wheels. So a VW powered trike, a scooter with 2 front wheels, a Suzuki Boulevard and a Triumph Trophy were also part of the mob. A cupla bikes were even rentals as Olegeezer (Joe) from the US and West Aussie Glen and Theresa flew into Victoria to join the event. Others also flew in to jump on a STeed as pillions.

Cooman
Among many other OZstocers, I had fun talking to CooMan and his pillion partner/wife Una. They have fairly recently settled in OZ originating from Scotland and their Scottish brogue was a delight to the ear. Here's roughly how one of the conversations went (with "slight" poetic licence):
"You have lot's of coos in Australia",
"Lots of what?",
"Coos - moo coos",
"Oh - moo cows",
"Yes, and they're often near the rood too",
"The rood? Yeah, they're often near the road",
"What would happen if the fence was brooken and the moo coos were on the rood doing all their poos and creatin' pools of moo coo drool and we were ridin' roond a corner and all this was right there in froont of us - WHAT WOULD WE DO?",
"Well in Oztralya, if somethin' like that happens to ya or if a mob of kangaroos or wallaroos is all over the road and yer half the way to Timbuktu and there's no time to stop then, quite frankly mateys - YER WELL AND TRUELLY STUFFED!"
(BTW folks, the only words in the above joke that Jack & Una actually said was "coos" (and a few other rhyming words) - the rest was my attempt at humour - I'm sure they would know what to do if there were cows on the road!)

The Weekend
All went well with little rain to dampen the spirits, good food, interesting rides (Kryal Castle was a gr8 background 4 fotos), putting faces to forum names, exchanging farkling tips, moaning of maintenance woes, talking of past trips and experiences and listening to a few speeches. The ozSTOCracy has changed with new blood helping with admin and thanks to Streak and Diesel for their forum founding roles.

Homeward
Johnny and I headed back Sunday morn and did the whole trip in one day starting at 9:30am and finishing about 16 hours later, (2 hours of 80kph after developing tyre problems). I had a go at towing the trailer but after about an hour and a half of scaring the bejesus out of Johnny I gave it back to him as he was so much better controlling the wobbles.

what a great long weekend at the Nat Rally. After a big change in plans due to a broken bikeST Georges ST1300   .we left Gregory's 2 up and as we were about to enter Mt Ousley Rd my replacement ignition shat itself. about a min later we were back running as it was the 1ST thing I  :think1 to check..  Picton Rd to the Hume hwy > Queenbeyan>cooma o/n camping, and a STir fry for dinner we awoke to FOG, casually packd down the tents tied down the trailer and left a bit late.Heading for the Snowy Mts twiSTies, did I mention ST George hadnt been a Pillion B4.. or on a bike towing a trailer. Well all prepared to ride  my trusty  'reliable' ST1100. and I got into it. A few harrowing turns from Pillion fear  >:() , a few scrapes, I'd had a fun ride, I think somewhere ST George changed into his brown undies. :fp He was amazed at my skills controlling both bike and trailer and pillion safely, but swiftly out of the Mtns, a STop for fuel and lunch headed to Wodonga and STopped in shelter b4 a dark STorm hit. It gave Greg time to relax his butt from clinching to the seat, walking around places we should not have been. :law so the sign said. :cop heading off to join the Hume Fwy south to Seymour to gain time in 110, then across to Ballarat  :hatwave :rockonarriving well and truly late and moist, at 9.30 om, too late for meet and greet where I had planned to be a bit of a fool  :crazy for my fundraising and offering my BALDhead to colour pink and blue for sponsorship to reach closer to my goal. http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/johnnyyted  MayB next year I will try and get and OzSToc team for next year, WendyL is interested,  then in drizzle  I pitched my tent and  went and meet some new and other familiar faces before getting much needed sleep.
Sat breakfaST was great, cereal . bacon eggs tomato etc and coffee when the water got hot,, plus more if you wanted.  then we lined up for the ride to Kryal CaSTle for the photo.
one of the beST bits to be able to see so many ST's and get to meet more STowners. and ride  in an Impressive parade of show for miles ahead and behind for  the locals   with others riding to Blackwood for lunch another chance to catch up chat about the cfmoto and other STuff before an afternoon ride thru nice country. I think Gregory enjoyed the ride better 2 up without the trailer and he was less rigid, later  a good night was had and awards etc and hand over  of the reigns,,new and old STowner friendships were made.
Sunday another impressive big breakfaST and goodbyes ST George had other possabilities to his thoughts off a scenic TRAIN ride home, we decided to leave a day early  thru Bendigo Sheperton and up the Hume and get home B4 the 4casted weather. we left around eleven and I delivered him once again 'alive' safely to his door at 1 am and as he says after a  few slow hrs concerned about my trye,  look how it is when I got home.

lQQK how uneven the wear is, did I only  make right turns...
Oh another firST in 30 yrs I let someone else ride my bike (I  call my insurance and added him to protect myself and my STeed) and  double me,,, wont happen often I reckon, but it gave ST  George a chance to ride  the Original, 'reliable, MIGHTY ST1100 STranger. my truSTy STeed. and try towing a trailer.I dont think I'd advise it at this STage, a bit more confidence and skills needed or mayB more madness.
I had fun  2 up amd Gregory won prettieST pillion. for me a fun new ride experience, 2up, my 1ST Nat Rally,, :like

What an outstanding time Nicky and I both had at Nat rally #3.
Thanks to all involved behind the scenes firstly like Mrs Dan, Mrs Marcus the great staff at Big 4 and now of course to Dan and Marcus OUTSTANDING effort and what a great event you put together.
Streak and Diesel you may be stepping down but I bet you can't let go...lol.
ST2UP, Pockey and SAAZ, A finer trio they could not have picked - Congratulations.
Nicky and I left Ballarat this morning at 9:00am and returned to Canberra in 12 hours and 50 minutes with 799 klm's covered for the day, total klm's for the rally was 2,263.

Until we meet again somewhere -  :Blow Ride Safe. ++

Despite rain so heavy around Sydney that everyone was driving with their hazard lights on and plenty were parked waiting it out.
