Old Uniden GPS.  Sandwich bag for waterproofing. Only Cost me a few hours to install.

Thanks gentlemen for your replies, it does give food for thought.

Are you using the cigarette lighter power socket or merit and or combination ??? OR have you converted one type to the other??
If so, was there any issue's.
At my age " getting lucky" is remembering what I came in the room for ;)

When I had a car GPS on the bike I used a cigarette lighter socket, but the merit would be more secure. My main issue was more making sure the power and audio cables stayed properly connected in the GPS.

The Zumo 660 comes with  dedicated bike and car cradles. The bike one has a power lead that you can tap into any power source, and an audio out lead if you want to plug into a wired comms system.

I use the 12 volt socket hidden in the left side compartment.  I've lost connection a few times but not a big issue.

I use the recently reinstalled 12 volt power supply on my shelf.

This morning I was severely tempted to upgrade my GPS for $309 (bargain price) but fork seal replacement won the day.

All things come to an at some time and so it is with my GPS.

To tidy thing up around my dash shelf I bought a new charger http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190334403853?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 which arrived yesterday. Wanted to make sure it work so I tried it out this morning.

Charger works ok, GPS unit starts up but screen flickers and blanks out. Even on the run back from our last RTE the screen went blank. I thought the charger might have vibrated a little an lost contact but no......that was ok.  GPS is at least 5 years old and spent most of it's life on the bike.

Before I received the new charger I spotted this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141000856505?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 for less than half price. This was for the car but looks like it to gets shared with the bike as well.

WHY?

Most phones have maps.

Yes I know the first post was no phones. I never use a gps at work. Prefer maps. That way I get an over all picture.

Also maps give you a chance to stop and have a break if you need.
