Own a SPOT/RAM combo ?
« on: March 29, 2014, 08:15:57 PM »
Thought about this little issue ages ago but it wasn't until riding in the rain yesterday that it popped into my head again.....although the SPOT is allegedly IPX7 waterproof..... :whistle

The cradle if mounted back on an angle or laying flat to give SPOT clear sky view can hold water from rain or washing until it evaporates......

So the simple fix.....drill a drain hole in the lowest point to suit your mounting method......simple I know but may save you a $200 replacement, if SPOT is laying in water for a few days until it evaporates   ;-*

Cheers

I purchased a Spot for my ride around the block as a safety back up. It spent its time in a bag during the day only to come out at night to send a "I have stopped riding for the day message" home even if I didn't have phone contact. My thoughts now are that it will travel in my jacket pocket in case I ever need it in a real SOS situation and require to have immediate access to it. A little pessimistic but to me that is its main purpose for when I travel alone.

I went to direct route- no mount adapters- just welded a RAM ball to the SPOT and use a lockable link to the handlebar RAM ball.  The filler is Selley's KNEADIT.

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
