SE Qld 17th March (Was 24th)
« on: February 22, 2012, 05:52:29 PM »
Need to gauge a response to an RTE on the 24th March. Was planning a very easy ride west of Brissy but have since realised it is the state election day. My plan is to ride to Grantham for our coffee break and then a short 'jaunt' up to Picnic Point in Toowoomba for a brief 'viewing' and then out of Toowoomba north and head down to Murphy's Creek Tavern for lunch. My reason for this ride is to lend a hand to these two communities that were so devastated by the floods last year. The media 'spot light' has long faded on the plight of businesses out this way. This ride is more about lending a hand and and easy ride for both north and south side residents and hopefully some time to meet new faces and their STeads. Shouldn't be much more than an hour between stops, depending on where you live, so an excellent opportunity to bring along a pillion if they are new at that side of things. I would also like to open it up to non-ST riding friends.
Can I get some idea of who would be interested.
Cheers.

I'm free that day at this stage, and if I can keep it that way I'd like to tag along.

Anyone else?  Pretty quiet reception so far...

Yers aren't all off playing golf that day, are you?!!   :crazy

He still hears the3 occasional allusion to his fuelling fooling, so he can expect the odd mention of his time dyslexia.

Sadly, I know he beats himself up over the latter more than we ever could.

Don't give me that!  You don't go on STOC rides, only FarRides.   |-i

Firstly, would a week earlier suit better, away from the election day. As with most of our rides we would be on the road before the polling booths open, so that would mean ensuring we were back earlier enough for everyone to get to their voting position before 6pm.
The ride plan is simple, perhaps too boring for some but keep in mind the objective for this ride.
The plan is to meet at the Goodna Macca's carpark 8.30 for a 9.00 departure. An easy assembly point for both north and southsiders. I'm looking at just cruising up the Warrego Highway to Gatton and onto Grantham by 10.00ish. Spend an hour there, coffee, a chat, and refuel just for the sake of putting some cash through the servo as well. Depart by 11 and on up the range to Picnic Point for a brief stop to show the new arrivals to this state, the magnificent view back toward Brisbane. Depart 11.30 and head north through Toowoomba to Mt Kynoch and then head down to Murphy's Creek arriving 12.00ish. We then can spend a couple of hours, if necessary, to meet the new faces and have a bit more time to check out some of the more 'schmancy' ST's, mine NOT being one of those. Once again, upon departure, people can decide how they want to reach home. However, for most, I imagine a jaunt back down the Warrego will be the most convenient.
For those that have already replied, would the 18th suit better? I realise dates never suit everyone but it maybe better to steer clear of the 24th if there are enough to make a 'posse' on the 18th. What do ya all think?
Also a reminder, feel free to invite your non-ST-riding friends along.
Sorry I haven't done the fancy map thing. Truth is, I don't know how. Anyway, you will admit, you don't need it on this one.
Cheers.

Hey Skip, This is the first time I've tried this but attached is a .kml file which, as long as you have Google Earth on your machine (not Google maps in your browser), should open with the route for the RTE on it. You'll probably have to zoom into it but it works on mine so hopefully it should work on others machines.

Let me know if it worked OK, please
