Because Streak is a Marketing Guru and you're a techie.
We see thirty dollars rather than forty.  Who could justify forty!!??  But thirty, good value!!

Yes, it is a marketing ploy and it's utilising something your mind does. It's called primacy and recency. So you tend to focus on the first and last thing you see and do.

So as Biggles says you see $30 in your mind and .95 in your mind which you know is less than a dollar.

So this says to me that we aren't getting the product at cost, we're actually paying retail prices. So who is recieving the profit margin? Is it going back into club funds? If so no problem as the members benefit from this.

However if the profit margin is going to the members business and therefore their pocket, I don't agree with that. The club should not be used as a vehicle to market and sell your wares and therefore profit from the club members, this is rhorting and is a questionable business practice.

So if the member who is responsable for choosing the supplier is also the supplier there needs to be a transparent process in supplier selection in order for the membership to recieve value for their money and that everything is above board.

If the member is supplying the product at cost to the club and no profit being made I don't have a problem. However if the member is making a profit without members knowledge than due process needs to be followed, in other words an independent supplier selection process is followed, if the member who wants to supply to the club is appointed as the supplier then all well and good because due process has been followed and all is above board.

I clearly understand that we are an Ad Hoc club without elections of office bearers and official finances and that how we want it to remain, no problem. But let our financial dealings be above board and without favouritism and in the best interested of the club and it's members.

Now I realise I have raised a contentious issue and some will be offended even though that is not my intention. I just want a club that I have dedicated a lot of time to, believe in and enjoy (as I know a lot of you have also) to be operating with financial practises that are above reproach.

If they are then great  .... No problems

I sincerely believe Streak isn't in OzSTOC to make his fortune.  Or even a profit, for that matter!!

No doubt about it you do like to ask the hard hitting questions Sabie  :wink1

I think there is some testing of the water going on here  :whistle

And having had 3 PM's, a phone call and a email that was rather irate from concerned OzSTOC members I will just respond to your paragraph three.....

What makes anyone think that members deserve this new shirt at cost Price ? Do we expect all our other Preferred suppliers to sell their products to us at cost ?

Do you think members deserve this because of the Annual Club membership they pay to be a member of OzSTOC.....How much is that again ?? :||||

Now this profit margin you mention !!

So on the shirts that are now being offered to members cheaper than the last OzsTOC shirt because we went in search of a better product at a better price....with a quality garment price, a Aust Post component of $8.25 for 500g pre-paid satchel, a embroidering component of having not the easy job of a logo that is a standard stencil, but a machine reset every time by the operator to have your name & forum name embroidered on the other side of the shirt for you that leaves a grand total of $2.70 per shirt that goes into the OzSTOC club.

So what does your $2.70 per shirt get you.......well there is this forum that we have to pay a retail price to have for your entertainment every year, state OzSTOC Flags, and how about those Shirts at this years National Rally.....we paid a retail price after sponsorship of $16 dollars each.......but we sold them to members for $10 and you got a rally badge too......how was that finger food at the meet and great, you get my point  :whistle

I took your post as mostly a constructive enquiry that deserves an answer as I respect your opinions and views ......BUT I to could see the glaring under tones and the way they could be perceived  :well  :well

May I draw all our attentions to this ----->  http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=696.0

Ok, let's look at your last point first. You refer to the post that sets out the following points.

1. Play nice

2. Freedom of speech

3. Content keep it clean

4. Off topic and off colour area

Could you point out where I have breached any or all of these 4 principles and the associated documentation?

I don't deny any of our preferred suppliers in making a profit, but the difference is that our preferred suppliers don't get to choose themselves as the preferred supplier, that would constitute a conflict of interest would it not?

I'm sorry if people are upset, and I'm sure there are those calling for my head. However they and you have missed my point completely.

I'm not having a go at streak at all, I'm questioning the process, I'm questioning the transparency of the busness practice of self appointment.

Let me use an example of the cloth patches one of our members just created. The cost of a patch was worked out to recover costs, I don't believe the production of the patches was conceived as a money making venture. A member had an idea to create the patches and followed it through. Now the patches are to become a feature within OzSTOC. So the process now is "Club" Management have sourced a supplier who will produce future patches that are of quality for a reasonable price. The member isn't saying I'll produce the patches and make money off of them. The "Management" made the decision to find a supplier. Did "Management" say hey, this is an opportunity to make some money?? The answer is no, and that's the difference.

So, if a member wants to be a supplier to the "Club" that's all ok but they don't get to be the person who decides, it must be someone independant.

So on your other points, I did not mention anything about who deserves and who doesn't, don't cloud the issue, I never raised any point about fees and the food and the sponsorship at the rally. Stick to the issue, stick to the facts and stop bringing in other matters that have no bearing on what I'm talking about.

My query has no under tone, again a distraction from the issue which is about transparency on the conduct of this club and that we are seen to be doing everything above board.

Why was there so much secrecy regarding a new shirt? It should have been out in the open (just like the OzSTOC jacket) so that people could comment. The production of a new shirt plays on the feelings we have for the club and one feels compelled to purchase the new shirt (YES I KNOW WE DONT HAVE TO BUY THE NEW SHIRT) but it does place an unseen pressure to purchase the new shirt to keep up with the club.

So at the end of the day if you want my head I'll fall on my sword and quietly leave. I know I have breached a taboo subject. But it's a CLUB not a dictatorship and not a commercial enterprise.

My last point, I know the amount of work Streak has done for OzSTOC and although you will think I'm showing little appreachiation and a lot of disrespect I do appreachiated the amount of time and energy that has been put into OzSTOC by Streak and Diesel and am grateful for it, but OzSTOC has moved on from the early days of the kitchen table and to be taken seriously has to become professional, transparent and the undertakings of OzSTOC above board and beyond reproach. (THAT IS MY POINT)

Ok seeing it feels like I am being called into question here.

We have moved on from the kitchen table, as for the shirts it is beyond reproach, we consulted around 20 OzStOC members around the country, for feedback, did you like it, opinions. You can ask all the crew at the Kingaroy RTE recently, I took a shirt there and discussed it with the people who didn't have to go early.

All the ride co-ordinations where shown the shirt, diesel and I were in on the process, in fact there where several shirts before this one was arrived at.

Why didn't we involve everyone? We actually wanted to make it a nice suprise for the club and help with hand over.

I make nothing doing this not a brass razoo, there is no bulk ordering, each shirt is done singly, it had to be ordered in, hooped twice on an Embriodery machine, packed up by a staff member and posted, the profit I make on each shirt is just enough to cover the staff wages to do the job.

Why is it done this way? We are a non for profit group, we don't have $10,000 in the bank to go and order 200 shirts, and then we would still have to personalize them.

We run a bank account yes, the leadership gets to see bank statements yes, I have a record of every product sold, I have a copy of every invoice of everything the club has purchased, everything that has been put into the OzStOC shop has been discussed with leadership. Brock, saaz, pocky, whizz, diesel will back this up.

How much money do I make out of this club? None, in the last 3 years I have put in around $4 to $5 thousand dollars to make sure the club goes ahead, and we could afford to do things, like rally's events, put products in the shop, and all the sponsors, they provided prizes for the events, up until this year only Esk bakery and myself where actually putting up cash for the rally, and from Esk bakery was $200, the rest was funded by myself.

I pride myself on everything that is done as has been cost effective, consulted, and in the best interest of the club, it has never been treated like a commercial enterprise at any point.

I have always said, and i have said it to you if anyone wants to come and go over the anything I have down I will put it on my kitchen table and you can go for it.

And going on from this, this is not a committee run democracy, it has always been about 95% a democracy! and 5% what diesel and streak say is what is going to happen, that decision making has now moved to Chris, Pocky and Saaz

We simply cannot consult the entire membership on every single decision that is made, nothing would ever get done.

There is no dictatorships, there is always consulting, you can ask around, there are lots of people including yourself that had been consulted on things from time to time, we share it around, there are many that will back that up. That way there was/is never a consideration of asking the same people and having bias, it is part of why I asked you to help with National Rally, you are able to give an opinion from afar like stinky Pete.

As for the "self appointment" yes in the beginning I had to, chris pocky and saaz have had the opportunity to go elsewhere they asked me to continue with the role, I said yes.

If anything I have done is considered beyond reproach, I shall stop, hand everything over and resign my membership immediately.

Morning Campers,

I have requested of the other Mods that we leave this topic open for members to have an opportunity to air their opinions and concerns.

Sabie at NO time did I express concern that YOU breached the principals that we all need to abide by......as you stated....."I have raised a contentious issue"

If you look at the bottom of my unedited post you will note I stated....."May I draw ALL our attention to this"
Being the rules of fair play for ALL to abide by ---->   http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=696.0     please take this into account as you construct your replies.  :-++

Congratulations to all involved on the new OzSTOC shirt.  I must say that I found the old fabric to be hot to wear as it didn't breathe well, and I needed to sew my badge on, as it peeled.  Assuming the new material breathes better, the shirt has evolved from what it was, into a better product, at a cheaper price.   :thumbsup

Sabie - I can see what it was you were trying to ask,  :think1 but your delivery on paper was equivalent of a sledge hammer blow to the head and a full box of 50 caliber rounds straight thru the heart of the one supplier who has given more of his time and money to this club than any other person. :eek :fp

FFS Sabie - Before you post anything run your idea past Pauline or another member, and get her to proof read it first, so your post has no negativity and is forward looking :fp

My reply today was brought to you by points 1,2,3 of the fair play policy  :wink1 :thumb :grin :grin

I must say that I am quite happy with the way things have been happening, I don't get to attend the RTEs and other events due to the tyranny of distance but from what I can see on the forum everything seems to have been handled by the administration, past and present, in a professional way.
I can't imagine there would be any nefarious dealing in respect of the new shirt, or any club merch just because the supplier is a member.
Anyhow I like the look of the new shirt and if it breathes better then that is great, I look forward to receiving it in the mail (hopefully before the 18th).

Hi Sabie,

I do get the point your making about club suppliers, self selection and the potential for conflicts of interest to arise. The unfortunate aspect of drawing attention to that issue is that it inevitably points a finger at Streak and calls into question his integrity with regard to his dealings with the club as a supplier.

Personally speaking I have never seen this as an issue for a number of reasons. Firstly, the sheer amount of good will Streak has given our club, in my view erases any doubt anyone should have over his integrity over any commercial dealings he has with the club.  Secondly, all of the products being supplied to the club appear to be very good value given the handling, packaging and postage costs. It would appear obvious from the prices that no ones making a killing off the club's merchandise?

(Though I remember Streak did entice me into paying $50 for an Ozstoc cup at the Inverell RTE last year) :think1

I agree with your right to raise the issue of suppliers and self selecting, as that could cause issues if the wrong kind of people were in a position to exploit that opportunity.  But I think if you really look at what's going on in our club there is more than enough evidence to allay any concerns you may have of potential rourting, profitering or unquestionable business practices happening in the club now or in the past.
